There is really something for everyone in this book. Some of the topics are a little controversial but most of the quotes are inspirational and reveal wisdom gained from experience. "All of us are driven by a simple belief that the world as it is just won't do - that we have an obligation to fight for the world as it should be." ~ Michelle Obama
Throughout the book there are a few shocking statements. There are some very funny quotes by Phyllis Diller and a very touching quote by Drew Barrymore. There are some moments of contemplation especially on the topic of aging where the reality is that we don't honor age in our society. Did you know Madonna doesn't like dogs or that Lady Gaga has interesting views about love? Angelina Jolie also reveals some secrets of her life.
Here are just some of the famous people who have been quoted in this book: Jane Austen, Keira Knightly, Rachael Ray, Maya Angelous, Joy Browne, Laura Schlessinger, Eleanor Roosevelt, Julia Child, Nora Ephron, Tori Amos, Dorothy Parker, Oprah Winfrey, Joan Rivers, Roseanne Barr, Mother Teresa, Susan Boyle, Ellen Degeneres, Whoppi Goldberg, Shakira, Helen Keller, Julia Robers, Princess Diana, Anne Frank and Ingrid Bergman.
While most of the quotes are serious yet interesting, some are laugh out loud funny or mildly amusing. I especially enjoyed all the quotes by comedians. I think if you approach this book with an open mind there is a lot to learn. However there are some controversial topics that will require you to think about life on a deeper level. The author sometimes includes quotes that reveal both sides of an issue.
I am always hungry for new books and I can say this satisfied my appetite quite well. I think you will enjoy this book and learn something valuable in the process.
