Entertaining and educational 22 July 2014
By Sumiko Saulson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This book reads like a scholarly treatise on women in the television program. It approaches the subject from four major angles.

1) The women in the television series as they compare to their counterparts in the original book series A Song of Ice and Fire.

2) The women in the series and the books as they compare to their historical counterparts. They are compared to medieval women, particularly as they were around the time of the War of the Roses (which is what Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire are based on).

3) The women characters as they compare to the male characters in terms of things like the ability to act autonomously, or personal motivation. This part of the of material deals heavily with tropes and archetypes in fiction.

4) The women as viewed through the lens of modern feminism.

The book succeeds at being entertaining while conveying a tremendous body of well-researched, thoroughly cited material.
