Don't be put off if you can't stand Happy Talk (although it's good fun in context of this album). There is some great original material here. Croydon, Brenda etc are beautifully crafted songs & although Tony Mansfield's stamp is quite clear across the whole of the original album, The Captain's ear for a melody is also very strong and obvious.
I love The Damned (in fact Captain performed a quick thrashy version of Happy Talk, whilst waiting for Dave Vanian who was stuck in traffic, when I saw them in Norwich just over a year ago) and some of the melody links quite closely with where Strawberries left off, so something for Damned fans too.
Great album, great fun. Go for it.
