When I heard 'My Dark Place Alone' and the preview for 'Drug Me To Hell' and found out that none of the band members apart from Wednesday 13 and Joey Jordison would be included, I started to feel very skeptical about this album. The two songs just sounded like Wednesday 13 and Dope mashed together.
However, because it was Murderdolls I wasn't going to let this album pass me by, and I am so pleased I didn't. Every song has it's own characteristics. It definately doesn't sound like the Murderdolls in 2002, it feels like a progression, Murderdolls with more maturity in them.
There are times which are very reminiscent of old sounding Murderdolls, there is one song that uses a riff which sounds like Dawn Of The Dead off the first album. The songs are heavier/darker/deeper and more melodic and they all sound very cool. The lyrics are also an improvement, while there are still songs that maintain the 'shock' lyrics, there are others which have deeper and darker meanings. It feels like you can take them more seriously this time because of this. There is one major factor in the reason why Murderdolls are so awesome, and that is they make a full album sound fun and fresh from start to finish, not many bands can accomplish this.
As much as I loved the first Murderdolls album, it was more of a novelty that wore off (Is there anyone left in the Red & Black army?) This time it feels like Murderdolls is more of a band than a theatre act.
I can't recommend this album enough to anyone who is a fan of metal. I also recommend buying the Special Edition because the extra tracks are also brilliant and there is a DVD. If your like me and found that Drug Me To Hell and My Dark Place Alone didn't sound very exciting, they are probably the weakest tracks on the album in my opinion. Don't let it put you off buying it! Those two songs definately have grown on me and fit a lot better while listening to the album.
