Womb Wisdom: Awakening the Creative and Forgotten Powers of the Feminine [Paperback]

This really is an astonishing book. I have also read the authors' The Power of Shakti: 18 Pathways to Ignite the Energy of the Divine Woman, and recommend it also. However, I feel that for most people, my first choice would be this one, Womb Wisdom. I think it is more accessible, and the exercises require less prerequisite knowledge of energy work, chakras, Tantra, etc. In this book Anaiya (wife of the main teacher/author Padma) is more present, and shares many of her personal experiences with her teachings, which resonated more directly with me. In both cases, these books are probably best read in conjunction with attending the authors' workshops, as the material is esoteric, and the language can be hard to follow without some prior understanding.

That being said I have not attended a workshop of theirs, and in fact have no other knowledge of them other than these books, although I have studied women's energy body teachings, Tantra, the chakras, and divine feminine teachings before. I found both the material and transmission behind these books, especially this one, to be truly magnificent, and very generous, considering that many of the teachings are drawn from spiritual traditions that are often very closed/protective (traditions of Tibet, Egypt, India, Gnostic Christianity and Kabbalastic Judaism.)

Womb of Wisdom is designed to take the reader through a journey of 'womb spirals'. These spirals each represent one phase of our growth from spiritual infanthood to spiritual maturity, and correspond to levels of connection and understanding within our womb center (or 2nd/sacral chakra, as I am more used to thinking of it.) Exercises described include womb breathing, the 'black egg' practice, connecting the womb with the earth, and more. Sacred marriage/union/co-creation is also described, although most of this book can also be undertaken as a solitary journey. The section on the 'black light', the void of creation, is also immensely powerful. Another favorite section of mine was one on 'womb centers' around the earth.

The book comes with a corresponding CD of soundsscapes/music with 4 pieces, each representing a phase of the journey. There's no instructions for using this CD, but I have been meditating with it, and find it very powerful.

The authors connect women's shift into 'womb wisdom' as a big part of the much-written about 2012 shift. For that reason, I suppose this book will be classifed as 'new age' by book stores etc. I hesitate to do so, because I don't particularly like that label, and the authors themselves warn against the limiting 'light-only' focus that dominates a lot of new age teachings (and the 'spiritual junkie' mentality that can accompany this), but since this is a review, and I view it as my job to give potential readers an accurate feel for where this book fits amongst the vast array of spiritual material out there, I would have to say it is new age. Don't let that scare you off though. If you are feeling at all drawn to this book, buy it.

Great book, containing something what every conscious woman feels deep inside. I bought it after a beautiful weekend workshop with teachers who were trained by the authors. Reading this my whole being was on fire! Yes, yes, the world needs this teaching, women AND men. Love it, practice exercises from it, implementing them in my own workshops, feeling the transformation. My womb is communicating with me all the time now.
