From the Back Cover

In 1905 a young kitchen maid leaves Fairly Hall. Emma Harte is sixteen, single and pregnant. By 1968 she is one of the richest women in the world, ruler of a business empire stretching from Yorkshire to the glittering cities of America and the rugged vastness of Australia.

A magnificent dynastic saga, as impossible to switch off as it is to forget.

This is a stunning story following the story of Emma Harte from her humble, poor beginnings and the story leading to the founding of her empire. You really feel as though you are there every step of the way from when she leaves where her home is to finding her way and how she finds help with Blackie and her continuing strength against all odds.
This is a beautiful story and pretty much one you won't forget, this is by far Barbara Taylor Bradford's best work.

It kept my interest throughout. Though perhaps a bit long winded in parts. I will definitely read the sequel as soon as I finish this book..

The first time I read it I was 15.
I have re-read it now at almost forty, well, things and times change.
But I recognize this book as one that has made his history.
I wouldn't consider it a masterpiece, though.

I loved this, followed by `Hold the dream.` The rags to riches thing with many unexpected twists and turns along the way. Most enjoyable.
