the scariest thing i've ever seen!, 4 Sep 2005
The Woman in Black was first bought to our stage in 1989 by Susan Hill; an adaptation of the Stephen Mallatratt novel about a recluse woman who passes away and when the lawyer goes to her house to sort out her legal gargon, she makes a re-appearance. This play I saw in the spring of 2005, and the quality has not dropped since I saw it in 1996. I'm now 16 and used the play as part of the GCSE written examination. When I first saw it, I was 6 or 7, and I can safely say my parents regretted taking me for about 5 years. I didn't sleep properly for a year I was so scared. This is a different kind of tension to the film genre. When you're in the Theatre, you cant turn off the screen you're watching it on, or go out of the room, all you can do is shut your eyes, but the soundtrack scares you even whilst doing that. I cannot recommend this enough. (Also to any GCSE students using this is as the stimulus for their course, please buy this and use it in your "Response to a Live Play" question if your school use "The Woman in Black". The book is very informative and useful, with the script, entire lighting and cue list. It helped me and I managed to get an A*, so i cannot recommend it enough! Good Luck Guys!) If you think you're tough, go and see the woman in black, it's terror you haven't experienced yet. Oh, and watch out for that rocking chair...
