Review

Jamie Lee Curtis I am in awe of the dedication that Jim and Jamie Dutcher have put into their study of wolves, and I'm fascinated by the many sides of their rich story. It is a tale that is alternately beautiful and brutal, tragic and hopeful.

Product Description

For centuries, wolves have haunted the human imagination. It has been accepted as conventional wisdom that they are savage predators, creatures of nightmare. Determined to overcome such misconceptions, Jim and Jamie Dutcher spent six years in a tented camp on the edge of Idaho's wilderness, living with and filming a pack of wolves. Now, in this lyrical memoir, the Dutchers share their experience of life among these intelligent and elusive animals.

By socializing with the pack from the time they were pups, the Dutchers were able to gain the wolves' trust and observe their behavior in a way that few people ever have. What they witnessed was remarkable: a complex nature oriented toward family life and strong social bonds.

"Wolves at Our Door" is much more than a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Dutchers' Emmy Award-winning Discovery Channel documentary. It is the story of two people brought together by their devotion to wildlife and held together by their belief in each other. It is about their struggle to keep the project alive amid marauding mountain lions, forest fires, subzero temperatures -- and the never-ending storm of controversy that surrounds the wolf.

Wolves at Our Door, by Jim and Jamie Dutcher, is a masterfully written memoir of the couple that spent six years observing some of the most intimate details in the life of a wolf. It also sheds some light a particular political activist group known as W.E.R.C. The book holds the reader's interest until the very last page, with beautiful pictures of the Sawtooth Wolf Pack, on which their account is based. Wolves at Our Door also reveals the controversial issue of wolf reintroduction into the United States. Many people that do not know much about wolves often fear them and hate them. I strongly recommend this book to anyone that hates wolves or does not know much about them.

I bought this book for my partner as a birthday present. Wolf my other half has always been very serious about the conservation and reintroduction of Wolves into the wild. This book is a wonderful insight into the wolves behavior their relationship with each other all the way down through the ranks of the pack. Wolf read the book in one day and couldnt put it down till it was finished. Now it was my turn i was compleatly captivated, I laughed and cried it touched my heart deeply, I came away having learnt so much about these incredable creatures. A wonderful book and I would recommend that every one the slightest bit interested in the Wolf should read it. Now I want to watch the films Wolf return of a legend,& Wolves at Our Door.

I really enjoyed this book, if you like or dislike wolves this is an excellent book for you. If read this book and you still dislike wolves then you must of red it wrong! ^^ And if you like wolves it is an amazing chance to learn about the social lives of an absolutely remarkable animal that can teach us so much about our selves and lives. The only thing that disappointed me was the fact i had finished it on my second day of reading because once you start reading it flows so nicely that you find you're self on page 100 before you know it! Overall it is a superbly written book that should be enjoyed by any one who has a positive or negative view on the wolf. You will find you're self laughing or crying at some parts in this book. Before i read this book i new next to nothing about wolves, now i know so much about them! After reading this book wolves will always have a special place in my heart. (sorry the review is longer then i thought it would be, but i could talk about it till the cows come home :D )
