CD Description

The original line up of mighty British Heavy Metal band Wolfsbane have reformed and will release their first studio album for 17 years, Wolfsbane Save The World , on January 9th, distributed by Cargo. Wolfsbane Save The World , the group s effervescent, hard driving, melodious, hard riffing, joyous, totally uplifting fourth studio opus, is, to put it quite simply, the album the band always threatened to make, but never actually achieved. Wolfsbane burst out of the Midlands in the mid 80 s, signed to Rick Rubin s Def American label in 1989, built up a massive following of (self-titled) howling mad sh**heads (HMS) and released three raucous albums before imploding in 1994, when singer Blaze Bayley joined Iron Maiden. None of the producers on the band s 3 earlier albums was ever able to harness Wolfsbane s unrelenting live sound onto a studio album even including Rick Rubin himself but, 17 years on, the band themselves have done it. Singer Blaze Bayley notes that We all felt it was the best time to record own album with no interference or input from anyone outside the band. We feel we have done some of our best work on this record. After grunge and Cobain we return with a seriously cheeky smile and an album that is the perfect antidote to the dour, fashionably miserable bands that seem to have risen to prominence. Wolfsbane Save The World was recorded, engineered and produced by guitarist Jase Edwards at his studio Majestic Splendour , where he has produced a number of name bands in the past. He states that It s been a real adventure trying to figure out how Wolfsbane sound after 17 years apart. We decided to make a record that encompassed all of the things that we do really well. So it had to rock out, be kind of catchy and be full of personality and spontaneity to give Blaze a chance to unleash the wilder side of his character and really let go. A lot of the guitar solos were kept from the demos because they had the spontaneity that I was after. The same goes for the vocals. The good thing about Wolfsbane, after working with a lot of different people who require different types of production, is that all we need is to have really good rock sounds to play with. The chemistry created by the four of us is where the real sound of the band comes from. The way we play and interact with each other made the record a real joy to mix. I hope people enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it. The time has now truly come for Blaze, Jase, bassist Jeff Hateley and drummer Steve Danger Ellett, who collectively state that We are back, we are bolder (older/balder)!! The world needs saving!! Clearly!! And with our usual modest self-effacing attitude we have returned phoenix like to do it!! The record is full of the kind of 'don't give a fu**ery' that the world is missing and needs when the going gets tough!! So pull ya self a pint of 'couldn't give a sh*t' and lets ROCK!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! 18 Jan 2012
By Jonty
Format:Audio CD
This is a really uplifting album, everyone ought to hear it. Wolfsbane sound like they are just enjoying themselves so much and the end product is a really enjoyable, listenable album. Buy it I promise you will be belting out the choruses with Mr Bayley as I was! 17 years brewing I suppose, it is exactly the album that these musicians have evolved their creativity into, and it shows that these legends of the British metal world can come out with a really brave, different, but rocking album. Get it now you will not be dissappointed, whatever music you listen to.

If you're a Wolfsbane fan, then this is a must buy purchase. Several absolute 'bane classics on here, including Smoke & Red Light, Teacher, Did It For The Money and Blue Sky plus others. Having seen them live as well just before Christmas its clear that they're back to form with this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprise! 18 Feb 2012
By JS
Format:Audio CD
I would give this album 4.5 stars, as I dont think it is in my collection of all-time best albums but it does come very very close. I rounded to 5.

For me this album did not need more than one spin before I knew it was a very very good album. As soon as Track 2 "Teacher" finished I was hooked. What an uplifting album and they sound like they were just having fun, which is usually what makes the best albums.

In reent times, the music industry seems as though it has become all about money and the fun of making albums has been lost. Some of the best metal albums were made in the 80's and early 90's in my opinion before it became all about the money; bands were simply playing and writing the music they enjoyed. This seems to go back to that era. It isn't perfectly polished production like some albums but that is what gives it that element of fun. It sounds like 5 guys in a studio having lots of fun and the results are excellent. I found myself humming the tunes at work and home and it simply puts a smile on the listeners face. I do wish more albums were like this. As a man who has all of Blaze's albums (not Wolfsbane but I have heard them before particularly the song "Wings" which I liked in my younger years)this is one of his best performances for me.

I hope for another album from them with the same energy and fun as this.
