The popular fantasy novel Tinker introduced the inventor-heroine of the same name, who lives in a near-future Pittsburgh, which shares an interdimensional border with the land of the elves. A good no 2 book 23 April 2006
By bookaholic VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
While not as good as Tinker, Wolf who Rules, holds its own.

Tinker is still a genius and still struggling to make sense of life and the different intrigues that she has become enmeshed in. Being the wife of the viceroy of the elves involves a lot more than she could have imagined. While struggling to hold her head over water in the intrigues of court brought to the outpost of Pittsburgh, she also has to save Pittsburgh by solving the riddle of the discontinuation. Having strange dreams to guide her is not helping that rather one-track mind of hers (one that thinks in physics and high maths), not fairytales.

Wolf who Rules (or Windwolf) has a much larger part in this book. We see him as a ruler of the elves of Pittsburgh, a ruler who puts his people before his own ambitions. Unfortunately elves are like humans in their ambitions, so not all of the newcomers are as noble as he.

I recommend this book to any and all. Wen Spencer is a varied writer, one that has found a place in my life.

Good sequel to Tinker 10 April 2006
By Mark
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved Tinker, the first book in this set. The idea of pulling an entire city and its people into the world of the elves was an intriguing one. Wolf who rules follows on from that great book but deals more with the consequences of the hyperphase gate's destruction.

Tinker is now an elf, more, she is an elf with great power for she has caught the eye and heart of Wolf who Rules--a powerful elf and head of his clan. When it becomes clear that the city is stuck in shutdown with no way back to earth, it becomes Tinker's task to find a solution before the other elven clans decide to divide up the city and its people among themselves.

I gave this book four stars and not five, because it felt less personal than the other. Where Tinker was about tinker and her friends, this one was more to do with the times and happenings around Pittsburgh and not the people it happens to if that makes sense. Whatever the case, its a good read.

While I don't think this is the author's very best book, it is nice to have a sequel to Tinker.

I'm finding Wen Spencer's books to be uniformally good, with novel concepts, and good original premises. Nothing demanding or taxing, just a good escapist, enjoyable read.
