Product Description

584 A.D. The Roman Empire has fallen. Britannia is a dangerous place. Vikings pillage the coasts. Bandits roam the countryside. Anglo-Saxons invade from Germania, seizing vast tracts of land, from the River Forth to the River Severn. The native Britons flee into Wales and Cornwall, while German war parties enslave the stragglers; or take their heads to decorate forts.

Paega is a Saxon shaman who discovers the dark and ancient magic of shape-shifting, transforming warriors into werewolves. This secret weapon will render the Germanic invaders invincible.

Kady is a British druid's daughter. When her father is butchered by a Saxon werewolf, she inherits his knowledge. She must quickly learn how to cast spells, read minds, and receive visions; all the time evading enemy patrols as she leads her tribe into hiding.

But Paega will stop at nothing to eradicate the remaining druids, because their magical powers are the one thing standing between the survival or extinction of the British people. With the fate of a nation in her hands, Kady finds herself hunted by a terrible enemy, every full moon.

More About the Author

Mark Fleming is from Edinburgh, Scotland. Written as M J Fleming, WOLF WARRIORS is a fantasy/horror novel. Set in the 6th Century, a pivotal moment in British history, Celts and Anglo-Saxons wage war over the future of the islands. The fantastical twist is that the Germanic Anglo-Saxons can shape-shift into werewolves.

His debut novel was BRAINBOMB (Chipmunka 2009). Semi-autobiographical, this lurid diary describes how a young Scotsman, Neil Armstrong, lives with bipolar disorder. Events straddle the late 1970s, with the punk scene in full swing, and the late 1980s, when he is sectioned under the Mental Health Act. There are also fantasy sequences, as Neil imagines witnessing medieval battles, and the rise of the Nazis. On reviewing BRAINBOMB, fellow Edinburgh citizen Irvine Welsh said: "it moves like a rocket and it's totally mashed my head!"

His next publication, BEDLAM (Chipmunka 2010) is short-stories. He has also contributed to The Big Issue, The Leither, Shorts,, and the Picador Book of Contemporary Scottish Fiction.

4.0 out of 5 stars really good but not enough hate 11 Jan. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
amazing book, its a really good page turner with loads of history and really fun to read but some of the chrecters who die a more gory death dont really have back story that makes you sad when they are gone. one point of this is when (keeping spoilers to a minimum ) the main character ends up killing two people in quicksand, i know the sand is important for later but these two peope just kindof apear get killed of then we findout who they are

4.0 out of 5 stars Waiting for the next one.. 19 Nov. 2014

Gory and violent, this book is not for the squeamish but if you like your history raw and exciting, give this book a try. It's good to have a female lead who neither trades on her looks or being physically invincible.
By the end I was hooked on the characters and am waiting to hear what happens to them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Story - Bloody & Exciting 9 May 2014

Roman authority has long since collapsed. The Germanic tribes are rampaging through England, burning whole communities and slaughtering the inhabitants. And they have a ferocious secret weapon. Can the young Druid protect her village against their ruthless and violent enemy?

This is an exciting tale of terror and survival. The author perfectly conjures up the harsh conditions and dangerous atmosphere of life in early Middle Age Britain. The horrors of combat are shocking and exhilarating and you cannot predict what is coming next. Although you might describe the book as fantasy fiction, not my favourite genre, this is not a dominant aspect of the story. It feels real and presents a slice of our earlier history. It is important not give anything of the plot away so that readers can enjoy the journey. I highly recommend it and hope M J Fleming is already onto a sequel.

By Bobby Smith TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
At first I thought this was a book celebrating Wolverhampton Wanderers League 1 title but no, I swiftly realised, it is more a book that marks a radical departure for the author, whose previous works owed much to personal experience. This, his new and absorbing read, is set during the Dark Ages and involves much spilling of Brits blood - a passion no doubt shared by many a Scot! What struck me as I started reading was how atmospheric the writing is; one can almost smell the incense and sweaty bodies as they merge into the dank and dark of the earth - a skill that is sometimes beyond writers who stick purely to plot and character development.
That said, this is a book that grabs the attention immediately; with gory severing of heads and the threat of death lurking round every corner. Viewers of the television series, The Walking Dead, would doubtless share that sense of fear, as both settings carry the omnipresent threat of sudden and bloody death.
I should also add that I could not imagine the ending before it thrust itself upon me, again a talent that escapes most authors whose formulaic writings are obvious and the result of too many writing courses. Mr Fleming, however, seems to write wherever his soul takes him and his soul is quite obviously twisted and tortured, if one reads all his output - the kind of soul that makes a good writer. Lastly, it is only a guess, but I feel that the author was influenced by the gangs of drunkards prowling the Edinburgh streets at chucking out time as he penned this book, as the gangs of bandits, Druids and werewolves he so lovingly describes have clear echoes of our modern day times. At least, that is how I read it!

A wonderful blend of history, legend, myth and fantasy. I look forward to reading the next book in what I believe will be a terrific series charting the trials and tribulations of the extremely likeable young heroine and her extraordinary gifts.
