5.0 out of 5 stars Hearbreaking, perceptive and with rare depth., 22 May 2001
By A Customer
I've been lucky enough to read a preview copy of this latest Wizard book, and I think it may be Diane's best yet. It is a many layered study of choices and challenges, with no simple solutions or easy answers. As usual, adult themes are treated in such a way that they are accessible to a younger audience, but with no dumbing down of the strength of the writing, or the concepts to be put across. I'll leave the plot details to others, and ask that they please don't spoil the book by giving away just how the dilemma is "solved". Suffice it to say that Nita, the protagonist in this book, is offered a no win choice of solutions to an unbearable challenge. Along the way, the relationship with Kit is altered; as all life alters and must continue to do so. I've thought for years that these books deserve to be at least as widely read as Harry Potter, and this confirms that opinion. Suitable for ages 8 to 80, or mine, which is 46!

5.0 out of 5 stars What price will a young wizard pay to save her own mother?, 3 Mar 2002
By margaret@gale74.fsnet.uk (Coventry, England) - See all my reviews
Nita is growing up and having problems with her relationship with her partner then her mother collapses and is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Will the Lone One's offer to save her mother tempt her or will her new friend's help enable her to fight off the terrifing desase?
When even her powerful sister Darine is helpless how can she come to terms with not being able to save her mother either with or without the team work she has come to depend on. A thought provoking and insightful development of the wizard series
