Product Description

Product Description

Haunted by the unexplained disappearance of his girlfriend, Detective Nick Rapture finds solace only in the bottle. Hurdling recklessly on the fast-track of self-destruction, he finds himself newly assigned to a bizarre case involving the death of a street wizard.
The investigation of the mystic, while of seemingly little consequence, takes Rapture on a deceptive and shocking journey. As the city of Dallas falls under the gloom of the raining season, he ventures into the darkest corridors of The Church and the treacherous inner sanctums of the rich and powerful, where reality and face-value are dangerous delusions.
When the clues unravel, he is confronted with a seduction far more insidious than his addiction to the bottle, and attains knowledge that could well threaten to destroy the very foundation of mankind itself.
A tale of magic, murder, and mayhem, The Wizard’s Detective is a story of one man’s quest for answers in a world where questions could get you killed.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Wizard's Detective 30 Mar 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a story about a detective who has become jaded and drinks a lot because of the unexplained loss of his girlfriend but once he gets his teeth into the crime he does not let it go and does not care who he upsets on the way to get results. This is a crime/fantasy story along with some secrets that he is not meant to find out but the powers that be have not taken into account his stubborness and he wants answers and he does not care who he treads on to get them! This book kept my attention to the end and will read any follow ons.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Story 1 Jan 2013
By Wendy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The storyline was very good, but I found the odd spelling/grammer mistakes annoying. Why oh why do authors not do a spell/grammer check?

e.g. waived - should be waved

bored of - bored with

she was sat there - this one really gets up my nose! should be "sitting there"!

Another common mistake - off of - So annoying!!!

Unfortunately, these mistakes put me off a book and are not at all necessary.

If it had not been for these errors, I would have given 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging 31 Oct 2011

This book really grabs your attention from the first sentence! It is a deep alternate veiw of the Dallas TX area with a great fantasy twist. Well structured; this book leaves no stone unturned as the detective investigates the strange murder. Well worth the 2.99 price. The e-book is formatted well and has very few typos. If you like crime novels or fantasy you won't regret reading this book.
4.0 out of 5 stars Read it for the world-building 31 Aug 2013

Interesting mythos, the underlying effect of humanity on a non-human system is well-put together (complete with historical background and political foreground - read it, it's worth it just to see how Dean did it). It's a 3.5 star review because I didn't buy the moments of capitulation by the screw-the-rules detective.

I liked The Wizard's Detective. It was easy to read, fun, fast paced and a realistic crime novel (even in a fantasy setting) This author has a good voice and tells a good story. I look forward to the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Page Turner 20 Jun 2012
By P. Frederick - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am not usually a fan of fantasy fiction, but I read this book on the suggestion of a friend. It ended up being a real page turner. The depth of the Nick Rapture character was very engaging right from the start. I found myself relating to many of the characters and was amazed at how the author brought them to life. I loved the way he incorporated the Dallas area into the book. Nick Rapture is someone I would like to meet.....but not alone!
