Book Description

1 Mar 2007 Runelords

Reeling from the battle at Carris, the young king Gaborn Val Orden finds that he has lost the powers that let him protect his people. As he struggles to rid his land of reavers, he discovers that the creatures are more resourceful and terrifying than even he imagined. Desperate for any weapon that will aid him in this battle, all of his hopes come to rest upon the nine-year-old girl, Averan, the Wizardborn apprentice to the earth wizard Binnesman. Despite her fears, he must convince her to lead him in battle against the reaver lord of the underworld.

Meanwhile the ailing Wolf Lord, Raj Ahten, learns that a reaver horde is decimating his own homeland. There, he confronts his enemy, and finds that he must choose to strip himself of all humanity or face ultimate defeat . . .

Review

Wizardborn is book 3 in David Farland's very popular "Runelords" epic-fantasy sequence--carrying the story forward in parallel strands of breathless action, lavishly gory battles, magical derring-do, and individual triumphs, failures, reversals or transformations. (As established in The Sum of All Men and Brotherhood of the Wolf , this fantasy world is multiply threatened. Particularly original and horrific are the monstrous, eyeless "reavers" who eat people, contaminate the land, hurl curses in the form of corrosiv)

Meanwhile Gaborn the "good" king, granted special abilities by the Earth itself, has been partly stripped of his power for misusing it. Major new players emerge, like the wizardborn girl Averan who has a special affinity with those appalling reavers. Soon (You cannot win this battle any more than you can hope to stamp out the fires of the sun or draw the air from the sky ... Our goal is not to conquer, merely to survive.)

With the sky literally falling, survival won't be easy. The 424 crowded pages of Wizardborn span just two days, during which the tension grows almost unbearable. Can Farland deliver the colossal climax that his build-up deserves? Book Four is eagerly awaited. (David Langford, AMAZON.CO.UK)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 3rd book in series 10 Jun 2012

Having already read this book many years ago, it's as good as I remember. I have already started the 4th book & can't wait to see what happens next to Gaborn. These books are written in a light, flowing style which are easy to read without too much flowery prose.

3.0 out of 5 stars Runelord 29 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the book and series but really hate long drawn out sagas. I bought the first three books only to find there were more I then bought the next three and found there are more. I will not buy any extra as I think a story should be capable of being told in 3 books and defintely in 6. I especially hate having to mwait for the extra books to be printed and only rarely make the mistake of buying without knowing the whole series can be bought.
But as I said the book was a good read with some interesting twists in it and if you do not mind waiting for books to be written you will enjoy this. I would ahve given more stars except for the sheer number of books required.
