Book Description

22 July 2010

Barbara's father was a sadistic man at the best of times - his idea of fun was to kill the family dog by tying it to the back of his car and driving off. Also for kicks, he took his children out on to the lake and held them under until they were gasping for their lives.

He sexually assaulted Barbara from a young age, often when the rest of the family were in the house. He repeatedly threatened to kill her, and made two very serious attempts. During the final attempt, as he was raping and choking her, Barbara made a vow - if she survived, she would come forward and get justice against her father ...

Without Hope is a powerful and inspiring true story of a girl who finally found the inner strength to escape her brutal childhood.

4.0 out of 5 stars sad and so wrong 18 Dec 2010
By vrilly
Will we never be rid of these terrible acts. It is a sad little book, but worth reading, I read it in one day. I only hope Barbara is able to carry on with a good life now and that this will be a warning to those out there still abusing, and those that cover up, they too are guilty. I feel the penalty does not fit the crime. I'm from the hanging and flogging brigade.

This brought me to tears as I had a really bad childhood although not physical abuse it was mental I cannot imagine how a father can look at his daughter in this way let alone rape her, I am just glad she got justice and can move on.

I'm so glad justice was served and she didn't lose a family the way they treated her would of been an insult to the word family
