4.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous in parts, 8 Jun 2006
By
S. G. Barrett "but call me Simon" (London, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Finely produced volume, though with an oddly insipid cover for such highly seasoned work (well, the early work anyway), by one of the young(-ish? see later) guns of scotlit; two niggles tho', apart from said cover: despite a dizzying list of 1st publication details, we are not vouchsafed the publishers of the original books!! neither are we vouchsafed Butlin's date of birth - nor, in the whimsical biographical details, is there any mention of his time as a piano teacher, which inspired surely his best poem. If the publisher is inviting us to take him seriously (which they should) these are matters of consequence. Well, maybe not the last, but I'd still like to know if it's pure fantasy - or if he still teaches piano!!
