4.0 out of 5 stars Lighweight little gadget 23 May 2014
By Reviewify.co.uk HALL OF FAME TOP 10 REVIEWER
Colour Name:Black
Length: 3:26 Mins
The Withings Pulse O2 joins the growing number of activity trackers available but has an additional trick up it's sleeve: it can measure the saturation of oxygen in your blood via a built in oximeter.

Provided to me for review I was impressed with what a nice, light, little unit it is and that it manages to pack a lot in to the small space:
- Front: touch screen which is used to display stats, swype between different days stats, and set the unit to sleep mode or heart rate monitor mode
- Back: Heart rate/oximeter sensor
- Top: a single button which turns the unit on/off, activates the screen and starts the syncronisation process with your mobile/tablet
- Bottom: micro USB charging point (for use with the sort of USB cable you use with a mobile)

Along with the Pulse O2 you also get a wrist strap and a holder clip (for use on a belt loop/pocket etc). The Pulse O2 clips into both easily, although in doing so you cut off access to the sensor on the rear, meaning it has to be unclipped before it can be used.

Setup was very easy and was carried out on an Android mobile. You'll need to instal the excellent Withings app, which I already had having bought a pair of Withings scales a few years ago. Follow the on screen instructions to link the Pulse O2 to your account and you're ready to get going. Note you can't use a Windows/Mac computer to perform the setup, it must be done via the Android/iOS app.

The Pulse O2 is very light, so light I forgot I even had it on until someone asked what it was (I have the blue clip which stands out if you happen to have a black suit on!). The display is very clear most of the time, it was only when stood in direct sunlight that the screen became hard to see.

3.0 out of 5 stars its ok but there is a much better option 8 Jun 2014
Colour Name:Black
Works ok (although my first one broke) but you have to tell it when you go to sleep so of course don't always remember. I bought a Basis b1 and it looks better, everything works automatically, is more practical to wear and the information is much better. The sleep band lost its stick and wasn't replaced despite promise. No windows phone app either but good integration with the withings scales. Definitely not worth getting unless have the scales. I do but still changed.

3.0 out of 5 stars On the fence 6 May 2014
Colour Name:Black
I'm a little disappointed about the accuracy of the monitoring. Identical tests don't seem to record the same data each time but I'm still on the fence so only 3 stars for now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still a bit buggy but worth if discounted 20 July 2014
Colour Name:Black|Verified Purchase
This is my 2nd Pulse as my first one (the old model) fell of by pants white in the clip at the movies, and I couldn't find it back.

So I still love the idea of life tracking and I bought this one, since the Sat monitoring even though useless in someone under 50 that doesn't smoke, is a cool gimmick to have.

I gave it 4 stars because it's still pretty buggy, had to reset it 2 times just because it didn't want to sync. The activity monitor works fine, the sleep same although the new bracer is the only one provided and the old fabric one is a bit more comfortable to sleep with then this new aluminium one.

I use it more and less hidden while going out but for work I still keep it in the pocket, even though tracking is better while in the pocket the wristband gives ok results not that different in absolute.

It's a good product, still lacks some features like auto sleep detect ( for when ur too sleepy to remember to set it to sleep, even worse is cycling through those 5 menus before you get there).
And in the future hopefully fully waterproof with 5m resistance so you can actually use it near water without fear of killing it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed in this tracker 30 Jun 2014
Colour Name:Black|Verified Purchase
Very disappointed in this tracker. It showed such promise..
It's not a week old yet & being returned for refund.
Firstly the sleep function started turning itself off after a trip to the loo during the night.
Yesterday it started spinning through the previous days step count when I'd activated it to see the time.
Last night, the touch screen stopped worked & is still not working this morning so I can't activate the sleep or the heart & O2 functions.
Back to fitbit then!

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Many Problems 13 Jun 2014
Colour Name:Black
I have had my unit changed 3 times since purchase. The last one I thought was OK until the heart measure vanished from mobile app although still visible on the on-line portal. After 6 communications with customer service and going around the houses following instructions to the letter there seems to be no answer. The latest communication said they could not help but were trying to run the problem by a more senior representative. That was 3 days agog and I am still waiting.
I have to say when Pulse is working it is a very good device but far too many problems and no solutions. Final decision is to dump it and purchase a competitor unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It !! 5 Jun 2014
Colour Name:Black
Great little device. Like the fact it has a display on it Vs many of it's competitors that don't. Like the App and the way that also links in other Withings products if you want to get them too. Run distance estimates very good (only 100m) off on a 5K run vs a GPS watch. SPO2 measurement is a nice new addition.

It's a really clever device and I like the idea of physiological monitoring. Unfortunately the device had a hardware defect which came to light after I started it up. I followed the Quickstart instructions, charged it up as well to full capacity then initialized it and connected it to the HealthMate Withings app. No problems so far. It did become apparent that it did not record activities consistently and seemed to freeze. The icing on the cake was the Error 1 message on screen. That got me Googling and working the problem. The Withings FAQ on their support site are really good and I followed the steps for this particular error message. It did recur and rebooting the device simply did not do the trick. I contacted Withings by webmail and got an email reply soon after.

They suspected a hardware defect and send me a voucher for a replacement device to be order from the Withings store directly which I did. Mailing instructions to Withings in France were included in the email. I carved up the money for the recorded mail to France. They would charge for the new device if you don't return the defective one. And if you don't pay up would deactivate the device remotely. That sounds spooky but fair enough. I hope there's no spike mic or cam in the device.

I hope that the replacement device will work if not third time lucky. If bad luck continues I tend to loose interest in devices. I must admit that the Withings range of products are great and I have a blood pressure monitor and a wireless scale which helps keeping us fit.
