5.0 out of 5 stars Delightfully twisted album of the year 3 Sep 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This has to be the best album of 2012. No other act comes close to creating such a collection of songs and styles represented in this piece. Formed in 1994, Archive found great success in Europe but in the UK remain an enigma.

With each album they manage to progress. Their high point could have been the previous release 'Controlling Crowds' but once again they've delivered something better and different. And it still holds the essence of Archive.

One secret is that they work as a collective: songwriters putting forward their best work, which is then layered with the sonic architecture of Darius Keeler and Danny Griffiths, and weaved together by the strings of Simon Lole.

Although the central theme is love, the songs are delightfully twisted and given breathtaking emotional strength through the vocals of Maria Q, Dave Pen, Pollard Berrier and the latest addition Holly Martin.

This album is a treat. The more you listen, the more you sink in to the magic, mastery and mystery of Archive.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Word "Amazing" 19 Nov 2012
Format:Audio CD
Unknown in England, huge in Europe, why? The commercial music monkeys in England believes a song should be a certain length and format for us to enjoy and they think we've only got an attention span of a goldfish.

Archive is a break from the average dribble we are subject to on the radio. They got so much depth, emotion, creativity and layers to their music that the only way to listen to them, is by the whole albums at a time to appreciate their full range and diversity. From the albums "You all look the same to me" to "Controlling Crowds" they will take you on a musical journey and their latest album "with us until you're dead" is no exception. With another new voice to add to the collection of vocalists, this album will immerse you to new depths that is more darker and moodier than ever.

I've seen many big bands (apparent big bands) over the last 10 years from Radiohead, Muse, U2, Coldplay, Killers, Oasis, Stone Roses, Kings of Leon, etc but no one compares musically live to Archive! just got back from Paris after seeing them and was absolutely blown away by them........I'm not usually a huge fan of live albums but listen to Archives two live albums "Live in Zenith" and "Live in Athens" to understand where I'm coming from.

Do yourself a favour and immerse yourself, you'll never look back........

5.0 out of 5 stars Archive's darkest album yet 13 Mar 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Archive have been going for the longest time without making any noticable impression on the public consciousness, but WITH US UNTIL YOU'RE DEAD shows them to still be increasing in confidence and sophistication, and contains some of their darkest material to date - there is a theme of violence running through the album, with some brutal beats and distorted noise echoing the intensity of the lyrics - CONFLICT is a particular standout, with the nihilistic message carried as much by the menacing rhythm track punctuated alternately by some gnarled guitars and tense string swells as the words. Occasional islands of calmness provide some contrast / relief.
