Far, far into the future, a young gladiator is forced into exile. Forced to comment a holy albeit painful ritual, Marcus gains the audience of the empress.
I am really conflicted over Witch Fire. I like the way the story is written, and told to the reader. Curtis Hox is a good story teller. My problem with Witch Fire is the lack of depth over the world setting. You have hints here and there that the world of Witch Fire is a post apocalyptic Earth, and a glimpse into what the ruling females truly are. I wish the author would have spent more time developing the background, because it looks mighty interesting.
I vacillated between rating Witch Fire a three stars or a four stars, with the lower mark due to a lack of world building. But ultimately, I find Witch Fire to be an interesting story, for those who don't mind a bit of mature content.
