I had never read anything about the Civil War, so this novel was an exciting introduction for me. Growing up with the legends of the Pendle witches, and living almost within sight of the hill, I am fascinated by both the history and the myth; this story does not disappoint. The historical details of everyday living in 1648 are eye-opening and the story lines are taken from the only two surviving transcripts of trials in Lancashire. Add some mystery, a dramatic flight and a romantic interest and it's a great, engrossing read. Can't wait to read Mist Over Pendle!
