You know when you go to a store and buy a DVD expecting it to be of the same superb quality as that of its predecessors, watching it only to find that your first wish would be to find a DVD drive cleaner! This film is terrible! You think that the Wishmaster as played in superb fashion by Andrew Divoff in the first 2 installments (hhhmmm I wonder why he wasn't in Wishmaster 3 and 4?) is one real evil Djinn, yeah pretty nasty and hardcore; only to find that when played by some Drama School reject that he is an art loving Bohemian Ponce, who sounds like a Tally Hoo Old Chap Lord of Old! Would have done better in Moulin Rouge! Seriously, the film reeks of a film student's first major film attempt, the budget is very low, the storyline is way too lovey dovey and the gore effects are plain awful. For example when a chap cuts off his nose, you can see him cut of the prosthetic and see his real nose underneath, an unlucky fellow gets his face ripped off, only to leave behind a face covered in strawberry jam! Terrible! Oh, my friend has just reminded me that in a battle in the ally way, the Djinn punches a chap and he quite clearly takes leave of gravity via Peter Pan wires! The dream sequences are fairly non-existent, due to the budget being obviously so low, although some evil ideas were good ones they just didn't pull off at all. If you intend to buy this as you have the first three, then for a complete set, then perhaps you could get it. If you want to buy it because the cover shows a woman with a sapphire on her head, a scary demon and a sword, bear this in mind. The Woman is not it it, the demon is as is the sword but both are so fake it's unbelievable! My advice would be to leave it on the shelf and get one off: Hellraiser, Cronos, Bad Taste, Braindead, Re-Animator, Slaughter High. The film is quite obviously a made for TV affair, so the omens from the off aren't looking good. Expect to see on Channel 5 very, very soon!
