I have watched the first two Wishmaster movies several times so this was an ideal way to catch up on the whole series, although probably not at some of the prices currently being quoted.

The first movie Wishmaster starts off in ancient Persia as the Djinn tricks the king into making a wish that leads to the death of most of his court before he is trapped inside a large opal. Cut to modern day America when an ancient statue is being offloaded at dockside, the crate falls on Ted Raimi (one of a series of cameo roles by horror icons). The statue breaks releasing the jewel which is pawned by an opportunist worker, the jewel is sent to be examined and our ancient demon is released and goes in search of the person who freed it so he can grant them three wishes. In the meantime he grants individual wishes to a series of unlucky individuals who soon realise that the Djinn interprets the wishes in his own way leading to some grisly deaths, with each wish granted he becomes more powerful and more human in appearance.
Once he has settled into his pursuit of Alexandra (Tammy Lauren) to grant her three wishes and so release his demon kin who are trapped in another dimension
It's a solid entertaining horror movie and Andrew Divoff is splendid as the evil Djinn, the make up effects of the horned creature are also pretty impressive. What makes it work is the black humour which is in abundance here and is present throughout the series but the first two movies stand out for me. Many of the cameo roles from the likes of Robert Englund, Reggie Bannister, Tony Todd, Kane Hodder etc are quite funny and the commentary is by Angus Scrimm from the Phantasm series.
