Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The title of Martine McCutcheon's autobiography is Who Does She Think She Is?--the answer, if this her second solo album is anything to go by, is Kylie Minogue. On Wishing Martine ditches the string-led epic ballads of her debut, slips on her spangly hot pants and steps back in time for a bit of fluffy 1980s disco. The mid-tempo ballad "I'm Over You" kick starts the proceedings, which feature no less than five tracks co-written by Martine herself. There are slow numbers aplenty here, giving Martine plenty of opportunity to put her undoubtedly strong vocals to plenty of practice, but none of the tracks particularly stand out. The disco-thing is rapidly becoming a cliché and unfortunately none of these songs, unlike Ms Minogue's comeback Light Years, have the classic status needed to outlive the fad. It's all very pleasant and inoffensive, but just a little on the bland side and some over the top production swamps a few of the more sedate numbers. You've got to hand it to her for trying though, and it's obvious she has still to come up with the best album she is capable of making, but it's just a shame that there aren't really that many perfect moments here. --Jonathan Weir

Ok, Martine hasnt released an album for nearly 4 years now (I dont count the silly musicals album!). After hearing this album way back in 2000, i was SO impressed because her debut album had been quite weak. This album is still one of the few that never fails to lift my mood - the songs are alot more groovy and catchy than the debut album. The disco songs are the standouts, notably "Tonight" and "Everybody" both written by Martine. The single from this were the infectious "Im over you" and "On the radio" which was still a good effort but there could have been better singles because this album is FULL of potential hits! Its a shame that Martine seems to have abandoned her pop career as this album was signs of greater things to come. So even thought this album was released over 3 years ago, if u like uplifting dancy (but not too cheesy) pop, this album will not disappoint.

A GREAT SECOND ALBUM 24 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Martine ditches some of the ballads and opts instead for disco inspired pop. She handles the change well and highlights include Tonight and the single I'm Over You. Some of the songs don't quite work for example Together We Are Beautiful, but on the whole it is a great pop album. I'm looking forward to the next one.

By Sam VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
There is no doubting that this album is blander and less adventurous than her previous effort- You Me And Us. However Martine's voice lifts it from a 2-3 star album to just about 4 stars:
1.I'm Over You- A great upbeat track. 10/10
2.Tonight-Not a good effort-quite run of the mill. 6/10
3.Teardrops-Similar to Tonight but manages to be a level above.7.5/10
4.On The Radio-Good song, sung well. 9/10
5.Everytime-Love to hear this sung live-not sure it could be done...8/10
6.Love Changes Nothing-I love this quirky and with a dash of cheese. 10/10
7.You Mean The World To Me-Not great. 6/10
8.What You See Is What You Get-Forgettable. 6/10
9.Wishing-A strong title track, very very fun. 9/10
10.Cried So Many Nights-A beautiful ballad. 8/10
11.Together We Are Beautiful-Second cover, slightly pointless to cover this song and not as unique as the original, but hey why not. 7/10
12.Everybody-An electronic-fused track and it's party time! 8/10

No star at all!
Cringe again as Martine shows her lack of singing ability and a complete lack of understanding of the songs. She does them no justice whatsoever. Read more
