5.0 out of 5 stars The best twist ever... 15 Mar 2003
Format:DVD
This is a film with everything! An edge of the seat crime-horror with an ending you won't predict the second time of viewing! A relatively unknown cast brought to quality by Meat Loaf in a typical role for him, as a bad cop! This fil will scare you, make you laugh, confuse you and most of all involve you! A must for all true movie fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great film, well acted, but 4 stars.......... 24 Jun 2004
Format:DVD
Let's get one thing straight, if you don't like horror films, you probably won't like this. The film starts off as a typical, "nerd boy gotta date the school beaut", but twists into a horror film, about a third into the story. Basically one day Brett Bumpers receives a strange tailsman, and is granted 3 wishes. Naturally Brett asks to be taken to the school party, with his dream girl, 2nd wish is for her to fall deeply in love with him.
I've always like these films, though a bit silly, I liked to see that the main character, had his wildest dreams come true, and it was funny to see that the acting, was sursprisinly solid. When Sam asks Brett out to the party, her facial expressions where spot on, like she put effort into her perfomance, and was puzzled as to why she was suddenly talking to a school nerd.
I recommend this film for anyone who likes, teen problems, and I think Alexandra Holden is fit!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent supernatural slasher 5 Dec 2008
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Brett Bumpers(Michael Weston) is the local high school geek. Girls come to see him for exam tuition, not affairs of the heart. He's awkward and shy and the object of his desires Samantha(Alexandra Holden) is going out with the school hunk.
Then he recieves a powerful magical totem(an animal penis!) in the post. The totem has the power to grant its recipient three wishes. At first Brett is doubting, but his friend persuades him to make a wish- he wishes that he could go to the spring dance with Samantha. Lo and behold Samantha comes up to him and asks him to said dance. All is going well in his life, but it seems he has unleashed something evil into the world, as the high school students start to die horribly at the hands of an unknown cloaked assailant.
This is an excellent little film, with no goals but to entertain its audience. It succeeds in this goal admirably.
There is an eccentric cast(Zelda Rubinstein, Meat Loaf) that keeps the viewer interested throughout. The film belongs to Weston though. He gives a winning performance as Brett and is a very charismatic lead.
The gore is minimal, the quirky plot a winner and as other reviewers have mentioned an excellent totally unexpected twist at the end.
I really enjoyed the film, and it went way beyond my expectations. 4 out of 5

3.0 out of 5 stars Seen it all before but still well done 11 Sep 2007
Format:DVD
This was a surpsingly good little movie. The cast of relative unknowns pull off some credible acting and the story moves along nicely without any obvious filler scenes. The twist near the end caught me by surprise but I should have seen it coming. MeatLoaf is quite credible and I had to look twice to be certain it was him.

The story has been done before and will probably be done again and again but it plays intelligently and most of the horror is left ot the viewers imagination rather than being an full-frontal assault of gore and nasty images.

I started off hating the main character but over the course of the film he kind of grew on me and by the end I was cheering for him.

In summary, worth watching but I wouldn't single it out as anything special.
