Biography

WISHBONE ASH BIOGRAPHY! !
The classic rock bands of the late ’60s and early ’70s enjoy a unique place in popular musical history. The Beatles had gone their separate ways, Britain had already experienced the Blues Boom, and Psychedelia had made its impact. The creative possibilities were infinite.

Wishbone Ash embarked on the nascent Progressive Rock scene in 1969, taking ... Read more in Amazon's Wishbone Ash Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant album 9 April 2005
By Marcus
Format:Audio CD
This is the band's first album, dating back to 1970, and features their distinctive harmonising lead guitar sound from the very first track. The musicianship is superb, and their style reflects many influences : progressive rock, folk, jazz and blues. All the tracks are extremely good, and the longer songs are all interesting (by no means true of all bands of that time !), incorporating good drum and bass solos. My personal favourite is 'Errors of my Ways', which is probably the most folk-influenced, sounding similar to Fairport Convention, but with fantastic harmonising guitar ! This is simply a classic album which you must add to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scorching debut - twin guitars, classic rock 12 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Surely one of the most amazing debut albums of all time, this album has some of the most incredible twin guitar playing you are ever likely to hear (except possibly on Argus!). It rocks, but despite containing only 6 tracks the album is always melodic and tuneful, never allowing the solos to detract from the music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful 17 Aug 2004
By S. Fox
Format:Audio CD
Absolutely masterful album, beautiful guitar work, every song is simple a classic. The band Wishbone Ash is often overlooked when discussing rock's classic albums, but you will scarcely hear anything better than the material on this CD (Possibly the only exception being Argus!). I've seen the band live twice now and the atmosphere was out of this world as they played several tracks from this album and Argus, and a few later ones. Words cannot express just how good this band is. It's heavenly.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of their very best 13 Jun 2007
Format:Audio CD
Their eponymous debut and musically still pretty fresh, even though the recording itself sounds a bit aged after all these years and the vocals are weak. The classic of the set is Handy to open S.2, with that great drum solo, though overall it's a good coherent album from the word go and one can hear just why it put them straight on the map. Many fans will consider that Argus was their absolute best, though for my money this one still runs it very close.

Oh yes, though rarely seen, for reasons unknown, it really is worth insisting on nothing less than the digitally remastered edition (on BGO Records), particularly in view of the vintage of this recording, the quality of which, it has to be said, was never outstanding even in its heyday. With the benefits of good remastering, it comes up a lot better.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant which is usual with wishbone ash. 6 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This is the first in a long line of albums by wishbone ash and it is brilliant. Which is usual with wishbone ash. It has to be the best first album ever.Errors of my ways is one of the best song by wishbone ash. The stile of the music is rock with a very slight fokeiness in it. so to sum it up if you like wishbone ash you will love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best First Album Ever (except perhaps SRV) 7 Aug 2005
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Twin harmony guitars, melodic bass and less emphasis on the vocals. That's what moulded Wishbone Ash for the next 35 years .. and still going!
Errors Of My Ways and the two tracks on side two..... oops! - showing my age - Handy and Phoenix really make this a fantastic album. It still influences my music now. Unforgettable.
One thing which has changed over the last 35 years - when I was at school & listening to this, I learned english grammar & spelling. Its so much easier to read these reviews if you take the time to get it right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Debut 16 Jan 2009
Format:Audio CD
This is probably my favourite Wishbone Ash LP. The opening twin guitar salvo and boogie of Blind Eye set the tone very well and the final track, Phoenix, is a stunning closer with well executed changes of pace and feel with the twin guitars burning brightly at the close. There are no weak tracks on the album and in my opinion it is even better than the more often talked about Argus LP. Just buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars CLASSIC! BUY IT! 23 Dec 2004
Format:Audio CD
This was the first wishbone ash album i bought and i was hooked from the start! This is simply fantastic british heavy rock with guitarists Andy Powell and Ted turner on top form. Bassist martin turner is outstanding(i am personally a bass finatic)and drummer steve upton shines throughout.
Every track falls nothing short of outstanding from the bluesy "blind eye" to the epic heights of "pheonix".
Whether you're new to this band or not, BUY IT!!
This is truly a classic album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice CD - The original Album from the Fab 4.
Just as I expected from this long established supergroup. Really surprised they didn't make the really big time as their music was, and still is (from both MTWA and APWA), superb.
