5.0 out of 5 stars An Awe-Inspiring Exercise In Spite-Laden Rock 23 Jun 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Perhaps the best track from the tremendous "Infliction" album, "Wish You Were Dead" is, in fact, a more crisply recorded reworking of an early Scheer single. Slightly shorter than the album version (it forgoes the four menacing surges of sound at the beginning, preferring instead to dive straight into the fray), the tune rocks, and it rocks hard. Thundering guitar and rumbling bass support the angelic/demonic vocals of Audrey Gallagher, who has plainly been dealt a bum hand at the Card Table of Love. Like a shark in a bridal gown, danger lies beneath the beautiful fragility of that voice, the crunching rock serving to compound the feeling of foreboding. Astounding.
And so the B-sides! An odd selection. An acoustic version of album track "Sad Loved Girl" allows Audrey's voice even more of the spotlight. The storming riff of the original is conspicuous in its absence, but the acoustic touch lends the song a new poignancy. Following that is a cover of Blondie's "Hanging On The Telephone" (to my knowledge, Scheer's only cover in their short career). Delivered in full goth mode, it chugs along with half the speed and twice the heaviness of the original. Boring to some: to me, genius. Finally comes "Cannon", an instrumental rehash of the tremendous "Green Room Sex Kitten", a B-side from the original "WYWD" single. A thunderstorm on plastic, it rampages forth destroying everything in its path. Surprisingly, the tune is terriffic, despite not one note being sung by Ms. Gallagher. A truly talented band with some incredible music, sadly cut down in their prime. Sigh...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Irish Rock Band of Last Century 2 Feb 2009
By Jonzer
Format:Audio CD
"Wish You Were Dead" is an amazing song by one of the hardest and heaviest rock bands in Irish history. The four tracks on here give an idea of what a powerhouse they were on stage. This is just a teaser, though, the album "Infliction" is one of the best ever from an Irish rock band.
