Review

"The New York Times Book Review Wiseguy goes nonstop...absolutely engrossing. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

Nicholas Pileggi’s vivid, unvarnished, journalistic chronicle of the life of Henry Hill—the working-class Brooklyn kid who knew from age twelve that “to be a wiseguy was to own the world,” who grew up to live the highs and lows of the gangster’s life—has been hailed as “the best book ever written on organized crime” (Cosmopolitan).

This is the true-crime bestseller that was the basis for Martin Scorsese’s film masterpiece GoodFellas, which brought to life the violence, the excess, the families, the wives and girlfriends, the drugs, the payoffs, the paybacks, the jail time, and the Feds . . . with Henry Hill’s crackling narration drawn straight out of Wiseguy and overseeing all the unforgettable action.

Read it and experience the secret life inside the mob—from one who’s lived it.

Goodfellas is a great film, a classic. For a book to produce such an amazing film, the book's got to be something special in the first place. If you don't believe those people who claim that the book is better than the film read this and you'll soon join their line of thought. Pileggi is on a par with supreme author Mario Puzo - exemplified by his ability to mercutiously create each situation for the reader. It's such an easy read you'll be glued to it until you finish the final page. A true great, up there with the likes of other Mafioso classics such as The Godfather.

Blistering true life account of life within a mafia family. The film was superb, the book is even better. At time you actually feel like you are part of the family yourself. Marvellous!

THis is a great book about the underworld, a kind of parallel universe where men still act like shoot-em-up cowboys for their own gain. Read more
