I have not contributed any reviews before but in view of the only other review posted so far I would like to offer a more accurate summary of this release. Pressure sounds are a fantastic outfit and one of the longest serving of all reggae reissuers. I do not buy all of thier releases due to personal preference but own around half of their catalogue. The overall sound quality is excellent with the bass realy clear and very heavy, the vocal is sharp and to the fore as is the percussion and rhythm guitar. The only slight muffling of sound occurs on the horns cut of youths of today, where the horns section has been added seperately to the finished track however this does not adversly effect the overall sound. Pressure sounds would not release anything if the sound quality was not up to the finest available standard.
The track sexy jean is indeed a little cringe worthy lyric wise but this is a reissue of an original album and therefore all its tracks are included, history is history, simple as that. Considering nearly the whole of the rest of the album is rock solid, with the three cuts to root of all evil, particularly the jah stitch work out, worth the asking price alone one weaker track can be tolerated. The run time is not an issue over 40 minutes of music is not scrimping particularly as so many longer albums are padded with dross. Pressure sounds did not set the price and this issue is available for a cheaper price on their own website.
If you prefer your reggae spoon fed to you by Trojan, VP, and soul jazz compilations that's fine but Pressure sounds are at the top of thier game and along with the newer lables hot milk and king spinner are at the forefront of quality reggae reissues and continue to deliver quality over quantity.

This is a 1975 album by Horace Andy produced by the underrated (and largely forgotten) Phil Pratt. First thing to get out of the way is the sound quality which is sadly pretty rough even by reggae standards being very hissy and sounding somewhat muffled, therefore I severely doubt that this reissue has come from master-tapes and there is even a chance that several tracks are needle-drops. This is a great pity since apart from being short by modern reissue standards at 43 minutes there is some excellent music here. The album itself is largely minor, key and dread sounding (even the love songs!) with some very powerful tracks including "I Don't Want To Be Outside", "Youths Of Today" (and a horns-based re-cut "Today Youth"), the mournful "Let Your Teardrops Fall", the powerfully brooding "Roots Of All Evil" with some frankly eerie moog-synth effects (plus its accompanying DJ [Jah Stitch] and dub cuts). Unfortunately there is also just about the worst song Horace has ever cut ("Sexy Jean") which takes triteness to a new summit, a pity Pressure Sounds couldn't of exchanged it for something more worthwhile.

In conclusion; one for the true fanatics due to the rough sound and short playing time but for the committed this set is worthwhile since there is some primo stuff here if you can accept the sound limitations. In some ways I am surprised Pressure Sounds didn't take these factors (sound quality and playing time) into consideration when pricing this item since at 7-8 it'd have been a firm recommendation for anyone but not at 11+.
