Product Description

Product Description

Wisdom plays a key role in the Hebrew Bible, not least in the books traditionally regarded as wisdom literature, among them Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and some of the psalms. But in the church's use of the Hebrew Bible, wisdom is something of a poor relation compared to the law, the prophets and the psalms, especially given the importance it has for the New Testament's understanding of Christ as the word and wisdom of God. The call to ministry, the author believes, is the call to be, or become, wise ourselves, and to help others on their own journey of discovery as to what this means.

About the Author

MICHAEL SADGROVE is Dean of Durham. He was Vice-Principal of Sarum and Wells Theological College before becoming Vice-Provost at Coventry Cathedral and subsequently Dean at Sheffield Cathedral. He has written on a range of theological subjects, and is the author of A Picture of Faith: Meditation of the Imagery of Christ in Glory (Kevin Mayhew, 1995), The Eight Words of Jesus (SPCK, 2006) and Joy, Sorrow and Glory (forthcoming Autumn 2008).

On being a priest 20 July 2011
Format:Paperback
This is the best book for 50 years on what it is to be a priest or leader in the church. With Michael Sadgrove's deep knowledge of the Biblical meaning of Wisdom, coupled with his compassionate understanding of what it is to be a priest or minister in the present century, he gives us a book to guide all who seek to be ordained, and to help those who have been leaders for many years to re-evaluate their ministry.
