Product Description

Cablestar's FireWire Cable lets you transfer data faster than ever. It attaches devices with 4-pin ports (like digital camcorders) quickly and easily to your laptop or another audio video device. With a transmission rate of up to 400Mbps, Cablestar offers you a high-speed serial bus cable with Plug-and-Play technology. This 1.8 meter, 4-pin to 6-pin cable is primarily used for connecting FireWire, 4-pin enabled devices, such as a camcorder or digital camera. 4 Pin is also commonly referred to as i-Link . The new FireWire cable plugs into a 6 pin Port commonly found on a Desktop PC. High Performance Universal I/O with Data Rates up to and exceeding 400 Mbps, designed around Plug and Play and Hot Swap technologies, the IEEE 1394 port is used to handle Bandwidth intensive fast serial devices, such as Digital Video Camcorders, High Resolution Digital Cameras, HDTV, Set-Top Boxes, Hard Disks, External Disk Drives and CD / DVD-ROM/RW Drives, Printers and Scanners. FireWire also supports compressed / uncompressed Video support. The IEEE 1394 1995 Standard provides for half-duplex data transmission at 100, 200 and 400 Mbps. At present 100, 200 and 400 Mbps devices are designed to operate on the same bus. Up to 63 devices may be connected on a single bus segment, but bus segments may be bridged together, making it possible to connect many multiples of 63 devices. IEEE 1394 FireWire allows peripherals to be added or disconnected from a computer without the need to reboot.( I-Link is a trademark of Sony)

I bought this cable in the hope of using it to connect my Canon MD235 camcorder to my PC through a firewire expresscard.
The cable arrived the day after ordering it(which is very good considering I hadn't selected express delivery, this I can't fault). However, the cable, I can't recommend. I tried for several hours to connect it to the computer in all possible ways with varying degrees of success, what usually would happen when I connected it was... Nothing. Sometimes I would get the incouraging bleep from the computer saying it had recognised something, then the connection would last just long enough for me to open my editing software to capture the video before it would disconnect itself. This process carried on for a while - sometimes getting a connection for a short time and often getting nothing, after about 2-3 hours it completely gave up I got no result what so ever. I bought a cable from maplin today for £10.99 which feels much sturdier and much more secure. It works perfectly, I would recommend going for a higher price as you will get a higher quality product.

Very good Product 1 Aug 2009
This is a very good product and work as good as any top brand the only diference in my opinion is just the price. I am using it to connect my JVC mini Dv digital camera to my PC to import my videos and works perfectly.

Didn't work 15 Mar 2012
The cable came quickly enough, but the computer did not recognise my camcorder - it beeped when connected but would not transmit any data. I returned it the next day with a note indicating the fault and bought a Belkin cable, which worked fine. Three months on and I've realised I've heard nothing back, nor any refund. For the £1.62 I paid, I can't be bothered chasing it.

Cable itself is good
The cable itself this could. I bought this to connect my camcorder to my iMac. Only realise it doesn't work on Mac after receiving it. For Mac, you need a 9 pin connector.
