Product Description

In this special feature length episode of Wire In The Blood, Tony Hill (played by Robson Green) finds himself a fish out of water when he s invited to Texas as an expert witness in a case of family annihilation. Known drug addict and Iraq combat vet Darius Wade has confessed to brutally slaughtering his wife and two young children. His defence team claim that Darius traumatic experiences in war have left him with PTSD, and he committed his crime while hallucinating a mitigating factor that should spare him the death penalty. The prosecution want Tony to join with them in proving that Darius supposed PTSD is a fraud, especially in light of a rape crime he committed while stationed in the UK a crime for which Tony interviewed him but for which he escaped justice because the US Air Force whisked him home. Alone in a strange country, surrounded by hostile lawyers and police, Tony finds himself at the centre of a maelstrom of competing legal and political interests. He s insulted, threatened, framed and physically attacked... and meanwhile his doubts grow about the case. Nobody is quite what they seem. And everyone has a vested interest in Darius. Everyone, that is, except Darius himself, who seems peculiarly determined to die. DVD Special Features Printable scripts & interviews, photo gallery

1.0 out of 5 stars money-making rehash 30 Dec 2009
By Marie
Format:DVD
Tony Hill goes to America. The DVD comprises only the one episode/film (albeit a bit longer than in the other series) and it is a very boring one at that. The script was probably written too quickly, the result being totally unrealistic and farfetched, the film focuses on Tony's idiosyncrasies without any of the other elements that make the series so great, even the jokes are boring. If you want to be cheated out of your money believing that what you are getting is the next series to Wire in the Blood, get this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Missing Regulars!! 6 Jan 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Another good story, but missed the regulars like Alex and Paula, etc; Took a bit of getting used to seeing Dr Tony Hill working in the US enviroment, instead of the gritty north of England, but eventually managed to get into the story. Shame ITV have axed Wire in The Blood and replaced it with so much reality rubbish!! The last regular episode left the viewer wandering whether Tony had killed the mad psycho Michael, but now we shall never know!! (unless one of the other channels decide to take on a new series! One can only hope!!).

1.0 out of 5 stars Made in an Alternate Reality of Texas 26 Mar 2013
By Stephanie DePue TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
"Wire in the Blood: Prayer of the Bone,"(2007),90 minutes, is a feature-length film from the popular British television series WIRE IN THE BLOOD, based upon the widely-praised series of British crime novels by Val McDermid, known by the same name. This possibly free-standing TV episode of the British mystery/crime thriller series was distributed by BBCAmerica among other firms.

In it, British crime-fighting psychologist Dr. Tony Hill (as played by the toothsome TV star Robson Green,Reckless ) crosses the Atlantic to investigate the small-town Texas case of Darius Grady, an American Iraqi war veteran who brutally killed his wife and two children. Can Dr. Hill, who has been hired by the prosecution, show the soldier's defense of post-traumatic stress disorder is bogus, working in these unfamiliar surroundings? Hill has a previous acquaintance with the veteran: while he had been stationed in England at a U.S. military base near Bradfield (the fictional Midlands town created by McDermid where Hill and his usual co-workers are based), the man was charged with the statutory rape of a local 15-year old. Hill had interviewed him, but before the soldier could be prosecuted, the military transferred him back home to Texas. The soldier is now using the same defense that he planned to use then, PTSD. So, will the Texas heat, hostile locals, and a possible violent plot against him prevent Hill from making his findings?

The episode was written by Patrick Harbinson, based on characters created by McDermid, queen of tartan noir. And what's tartan noir, you might ask. A crime novel written by a Scot (duh!), darker and bloodier than the usual, but leavened, thank goodness, with that dark Scottish humor.

I remember the various series from TV but this film was new to me, I enjoyed this and the change of venue certainly added to the story. I would recommend it to those who remember the TV series.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Storyline 7 May 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having watched all the other Wire in the Bloods and thoroughly enjoyed them, I was very disappointed in this DVD. There was no real storyline and none of the regular characters appear in this DVD. Based in America unfortunately Tony Hill's character traits do not travel well, this added to an almost non-existent storyline made me feel I had wasted my money on this one-off episode.
