More About the Author

Samuel Beckett was born in Dublin in 1906. He was educated at Portora Royal School and Trinity College, Dublin, where he graduated in 1927. His made his poetry debut in 1930 with Whoroscope and followed it with essays and two novels before World War Two. He wrote one of his most famous plays, Waiting for Godot, in 1949 but it wasn't published in English until 1954. Waiting for Godot brought Beckett international fame and firmly established him as a leading figure in the Theatre of the Absurd. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1961. Beckett continued to write prolifically for radio, TV and the theatre until his death in 1989.

This boxed set contains the Soundscape Inc - Voices International/RIAS 1986 English-language production of 'All That Fall' with Billie Whitelaw playing Maddy Rooney. This recording is, as far as I know, the only one available other than the original 1957 BBC broadcast version released on the British Library cd 'Samuel Beckett: Works for Radio'. The 1957 production is, for several reasons, of historical interest but should you wish to listen to a version which has been created using more up-to-date recording techniques and sound effects, then the 1986 production included here is recommended.
The German-language productions in this set include 'Waiting for Godot' and 'First Love' with other shorter pieces, and interviews with several people who knew and worked with Samuel Beckett.
This set is a high-quality product which includes a small hard-backed booklet containing production notes and photographs.
