I could not be more pleased that I bought this book for my 2 year old boy. He has used it every day for three weeks, usually asking for it when he gets downstairs in the morning. I chose it originally because he enjoys puzzles, but we have noticed that he is also learning pen control and is starting to recognise numbers 1-10 - bonus! We attended a family reunion, which could have been a difficult event with a two year old, but he sat for three hours working on this book barely moving from his seat!
There are three different types of activity in the book - dot-to-dots, mazes and 'doodle' activities. These are presented as highly colourful, exciting and well-themed visuals which my son finds mesmerising! Almost all the activities are over a double page spread filling the whole page, with a minimum of instructions. Themes include vehicles, cupcakes, monsters, pirates, clothing and space. I would say that there are more of the traditionally male themes covered, but I would still definitely buy this for a girl.
The two pens provided did not last long but white board markers are easily bought and work just as well. If you were going to buy this book to entertain a child on a trip, it would be worth getting a few spare pens before you go! The way in which the pens are glued to the front of the book is its main down side. I ended up tearing a hole in the cover trying to get the pens free.
