Purchased this three years ago, and can honestly say it has become my favourite winter/ Christmas cd. It's contemplative, not in-your-face festive, which probably explains its appeal. Some compositions are familiar, but all sound fresh. A gorgeous solo harp accompanies boy choristers' heavenly voices, and you can follow the poetry of the lyrics from the sleeve notes. Track 6, Goodall's own 'Lullaby of Winter', must surely melt the most cynical of modern hearts:
"Yet there in Palestine
In that desert chill
We are reminded of some truths that do not wane
That for each homeless girl like her there are two endings
One where we hold her hand the other where we don't
That for two helpless kids like him there are two stories
One where we heed the cry, another where we won't."
I cannot imagine any more relevant Christmas music for our secular times. Recommended!
