Originally published as WINTER MEETING (1985)

A twilit hush had settled over the cemetery, and the sighing of the wind in the trees and the hiss of falling snow combined to enclose two strangers in a still world.

Leda Bradshaw was visiting the grave of her beloved father. Kyle Reardon was paying his last respects to a man everyone believed he had wronged.

Leda knew Reardon was accused of destroying both her father's business and his life. She knew the townspeople scorned him as an outcast. She knew he was the one man she should avoid at all costs. But one glimpse of the pain and determination in his bleak gray eyes told her he was also the one man she could never turn away from.

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase check out 'twilit' (lit by twilight), 'fussbudget' (fussy person) and galoshes (ancient footwear item, now replaced by boots or wellies, apparently), so this is really dated, but as usual by DOM, very well-written.

Other than the above, and many other dated expressions, this was a tale of Leda, who's visiting her father's grave, and sees Kyle, who the whole town blames for his death. She wasn't home at the time, and Kyle's been in jail for involuntary manslaughter, so she doesn't know him, doesn't blame him and in fact, treats him as someone who's paid his dues and deserves another chance.

He's come back to clear his name, and doesn't want to mess up her life, but she's a refreshing character who does her own thing, thinks with her own mind and without being influenced by others, and together, they s..l..o..w..l..y... develop a relationship. There is a love scene or two, which come without much interaction on their part, and which kind of seemed...transplanted, simply as the tale, being a romance novel, needed one...

A decent read, due to the author's skill, but not an exciting one, not a fast-paced romance, not a passionate one, but readable. Not a tale that I would have been happy to pay for, but another decent read from an author who's been off the scene for a while and who'd seemingly released her back-catalogue.

I liked this story but it's not the best one that DOM has written. I liked the background and the romance. I did feel something was lacking.

5.0 out of 5 stars I adored this book 18 April 2012

I wanted to post that I adored this book even though it is an old school romance from the nineteen eighties. The leading man in the story, Kyle Reardon, is not the typical billionaire seen so often today. Rather he is a down and out survivor who's almost lost faith in everything, clinging grimly to his dignity as he focuses all of his energy on restoring his career and his good name. He is reluctant to get involved with the daughter of his former boss but simply cannot resist her. She penetrates his defenses with her passion and determination and loyalty. Leda turns Kyle's life around and makes him hope and love again. Then just when they are happy and planning to be together forever, Leda uncovers seeming proof that Kyle's been lying to her throughout their relationship. How their differences are resolved and they finally reunite makes for a tender and satisfying love story. Kyle is a quiet and aloof hero with an underlying simmering lust for life and especially for his leading lady. Leda is a strong and willful heroine who is hell bent on helping her lover until she is devastated by his ostensible betrayal. I liked these people a lot and recommend the book to anyone looking for a straightforward and sexy love story. I give it five stars.

I really enjoyed this story and didn't want to put it down until the very end. Two people working out some very serious issues. The heroine is a very strong female which I appreciate. The hero is one gorgeous guy that I really liked. It was a very enjoyable read and one I highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging Afternoon Read 17 April 2012
By Dee Reader - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well written, clean romantic love story. It was a pleasant afternoon read, with likeable characters. The heroine finds herself attracted to the man everyone blames for her father's death. He tries to fight his attraction for her, for her own good. Both are strong characters and I found myself hoping they would find a way to make their relationship work.
If you need a quick enjoyable read, this one will leave you smiling.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite, but worth the time. 18 April 2012

I liked the story and I thought the plot was both smart and well-crafted. The hero was smokin', and the kissing scenes were definitely hot. But I deducted points for the heroine. She seemed a bit whiny and more passive than I felt was good for the story. She sits around for weeks after receiving flowers and just randomly hopes the hero is going to call without so much as attempting to contact him herself. She's simply given up. Then, they go from this intense never-see-each-other-but-fool-around-when-we-do to suddenly saying "I love you". It felt forced to me, and I didn't see true feelings (other than lust) develop between them.

I got this as a free download, and it was a quick read which makes it worth checking out. Obviously the other reviewers liked it a lot, so maybe you'll find it a better read than I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Comes from the Most Unexpected Places 18 April 2012
By Sheiglagh - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Leda Bradshaw and Kyle Reardon have one thing in common - they both love Leda's late father, Carter Bradshaw. But, other than that, they might be living in two different planets. Leda is the town's well-loved daugther while Kyle Reardon... let us just say that he is not on anyone's Christmas list. Still, love can come from the most unexpected place! Leda and Kyle could not fight the attraction they have for each other.

A beautiful story that are filled with real issues that the two lovers did not create nor have any control of, "Winter Affair," makes you see and appreciate true love. I fell in love with Leda and Kyle within the first few pages. They reminded me of Cascada's "Bad Boy". And, I better end here because I don't want to spoil the story for you.

It's a great read! You can bring it to the beach or the poolside, even the plane for it is guaranteed to make the flight seem faster.
