This is NOT a toy - they are legitimate oil paints that do NOT require the use of toxic solvents (what a relief for us asthmatics). Lovely texture and colours (though I rounded out the palette with a few more colours). I'm used to painting with acrylics, and couldn't try oils because of sensitivity to turps. Painting with oils is tricky at best to get things right and for your work to last, so don't expect it to be easier with Artisan paints - you still have to think about all the "rules" - proper mix of paint, solvent (in this case water) and medium when layering; fat-over-lean; what support you're painting on; clean-up (these cleanup with soap and water but still requires care so as not to poison the environment...as much); etc. BUT these are definitely worth a try to avoid noxious fumes from solvents, especially if you're painting at home, have children or pets, or are sensitive to turps.
Might be a good purchase along with something like "Oil Painting for Dummies" if you're a TOTAL beginner.
