Canadian-born mental performance coach, Midgie Thompson specialises in 'Inspiring Excellence' in individuals and teams. As a Master Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Hypnotherapy, she helps develop performance skills by combining mental toughness techniques with balanced lifestyle choices.

Midgie founded Bright Futures Coaching Ltd in 2003 and has been providing motivational, mental performance and personal development coaching ever since. The company also offers business performance, management and communication skills courses.

Midgie regularly writes, and is a spokesperson in the media, on mental preparation skills, peak performance, goal setting, motivation and confidence building for sporting and business journals. She also teaches at the University of Brighton and provides coaching and advice to Mind Tools™ Career Excellence Club.

She has coached athletes at all levels from amateur to World championship, and worked with people in the business world to Managing Director level.

Midgie lives in Brighton, UK, and is a keen amateur runner and triathlete.

What a great book! I can see where there are so many instances in life where we want to perform and be the best we can be, and not just in sports!

As a recruiter sending candidates for interviews, there are many ideas, concepts and skills in this book that they can also use to help them shine. The suggestions made in Winning Strategies has certainly help those candidates boost their confidence levels when they present at the interview or deal with any negative internal chatter that may be critical of how they did.

I particularly liked the idea of doing a post-event review to help the individual look at all the elements that contributed to 'their performance' and help them learn for the next time. Although we currently do this, I like the more structured and thorough approach that Midgie suggests.

Overall, I think Winning Strategies is a must read for anyone who wants to shine in whatever they do!

This book is not only about sport motivation techniques; it helped me to stay focused and motivated to write my dissertation for the final year business course. I highly recommend reading it!!!

I met Midgie earlier this year, purely by chance and later discovered that she'd released this book - I bought it straight away as I know how motivating she is and I love speaking to her to get inspired about sporting and business ventures! It's written in a conversational format, it's personal and speaks to those who need guidance in a way that clearly identifies what's needing to be done! Thanks Midgie, you're a guiding light and I look forward to chatting with you again soon! This book is excellent for anyone who wants to pursue a sporting career, improve their approach to fitness or simply sort their life out!

This is a must have for anyone who wants to get on with their life. It's not just inspirational but a handbook to tell you how to get there, whether you're an athlete or just trying to make your mark in life. The focus is how your mental attitude is THE factor that affects your success or failure in life, and most importantly, the book gives tips about how to get there step by step and build your confidence to succeed. Truly an excellent and inspirational read!

I read this book after reading quite a few motivational books. Being from a scientific based background I loved the way Midgie draws from both academic writings as well as personal and professional experiences. It's very clever in the fact that it asks you what your goal is and how you are going to fit it in- this is massively important in our busy lives. You can use it for sports or any other part of your life that you need to achieve.
