5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended 16 Jan 2008
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this toy Xmas 2007 for my 12 year old daughter and we have already had our money's worth and its only January 2008!! We all love it. It is much better than Scrabble as it is quicker and everyone is playing all of the time rather than spending time waiting for your turn. As you pick up extra tiles you can constantly change the crossword that you have made. The standard of the words made by the children has improved dramatically over the Christmas period and they are having so much fun that they don't even realise that they are learning. It will be going on holiday with us too as it is so easy to pack. Buy this toy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars bananagram 30 Aug 2009
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is a clever toy very like scrabble but played by yourself. Tiles are shared between players and each player then makes their own crossword changing tiles when they can't get out. The crossword changes all the time as more tiles are picked up and placed into words. There is no need for a board or holders for the tiles and the game is easily transported. An excellent but simple concept.

The best fun we have had in years. Simple instructions. Great family game. Words can be as long or as short as you want. Children enjoy playing. We played in three teams of two as a variation of the game and it worked well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bananagram by candle light. 29 Sep 2008
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this on the strength of its reviews to take on holiday. My husband, who hates playing games, felt compelled to offer our daughter assistance when she played with me and was hooked. All 4 of us played many times during the holiday and it saved the day when we had a power cut. You can't read by candle light but you can still play Bananagram! A fantastic idea and the letter tiles are very pleasing to handle. An all round winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple but brilliant! 13 Sep 2010
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I played this game for the first time last weekend with my 2 nephews, aged 13 and 10, and their dad. I was immediately hooked! It's fun for all ages, nobody gets bored waiting their turn as everyone is constantly building and changing their crosswords, and it gets much faster and more exciting as the game progresses and the letters are all used up! It teaches language skills, memory, co-ordination and even listening, as everyone has to take another letter when someone shouts "peel", which gets hectic as everyone can be shouting at once, and of course trying to be the first to finish! In our game we allowed proper names, abbreviations and foreign words to give the boys more scope, but a set of proper rules are included for those who want to stick to them completely. The game is completely self-contained in the banana-shaped bag, no awkward board to carry about, no dice to spend half the game scrambling under the table for, no letter scores to add up, just good, simple fun and I would recommend it to anyone! The price is also impressive: I have seen the game in other catalogues at almost twice the price (which actually would still be good value!). I was also impressed that my two nephews were so involved with the game that they continued to play, even with my 6 year old son begging them to go and play video games with him! Anything educational that holds kids' attention for upwards of an hour on a Saturday night has to be a good thing! I immediately ordered a set of Bananagrams for us to play with at home or on holiday (it would easily fit into a rucksack or handbag), as my 6 year old loves playing with words, and have so far ordered 3 further sets to give as presents. An ideal stocking filler or kids birthday party gift!
Fun, simple, educational and compact: everything a game should be!

2.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic if not a fake 21 Mar 2012
By Jo
Durability: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I've bought this game several times before and it is an excellent game that is easy to play and a lot of fun. I would fully recommend it if you get the original game.

Unfortunately the game that I bought from Gizzmos 4 U isn't the original - it lacks the 'R' which would indicate that it was the original product (check on your game bag, the R is in a small circle near the name: Bananagrams) and the individual letter pieces are half the weight of the original game and have a hollow back to the them. It is very different to the original game. My thoughts that the product may have been changed were dispelled when a friend received his game a week after my order and it was the same as the first game of bananagrams I bought.

If I am wrong and the game has changed, then I stand corrected. This game was no way as good as the original and I am very disappointed with the product I received. My marks above are for the fake (or new?) version.

2.0 out of 5 stars Silly Rules
The rules as supplied with this game are just silly, especially the shouting out. However, we find the letter tiles useful for playing various word games of our own devising.
