I am an avid collector of Top Trumps, having amassed over 100 packs already. The problem is that sometimes I don't complete the game, because it goes on far too long, and basically I get bored. Then I came across Top Trumps tournament, in a charity shop priced £6.99, I snapped it up - and hey presto, problem solved. Instead of having 15 cards each (based on two players), the maximum number of card varies from 3 (mini game) to 9 cards (final). The losing card is discarded, as opposed to being added to the hand of the winner. It comes with six decent packs, which can be added to (some regular packs of top trumps include bonus cards to be used with tournament packs.) The mini games are Head to Head, My Pack (Player's choice), HI low (all 3 cards) and Shoot out (1 card) You can also win two pegs and steal an opponents peg. The winner is the first person to get to 9 pegs, after which the final takes place. The winner obviously gets 9 cards, and his opponent(s) get a card for each peg they have rightly earned (or stolen.) As it takes less time to play (sometimes) than a normal game of top trumps, it adds another element of fun, and I would say I prefer using the tournament game. There are different versions of the game available, for example a Marvel edition, Olympic edition etc, but if you have the original then all you are getting are 6 different packs to play with. All in all, if you're a top trumps fan, then it is worth the money to get a single edition of Tournament. Recommended.
