After finishing university, I had a tough time finding a job that I liked. The job market in the Philippines was (and still is) fiercely competitive. I read a few American books on job interviews, but things did not change for the better. I'm glad I invested my hard-earned money in this book - it opened my eyes!
At first I found the author's attitude very cynical, but then I realized that job interviews are a selling situation (as the author says, "it is the only situation where the product is selling itself - that product is YOU"!) and that a healthy dose of cynicism and scepticism is a good thing. I accepted some jobs (before reading this book) where interviewers promised lots of things, but the jobs turned to be sordid affairs.
After a while I started to like the author's style and the value of his unconventional advice dawned on me. The stuff you read here you will NOT find in many (or most?) other books on job interviews! As I said most other books dealing with the same issue were written by Americans or British authors. The author, as a Yugoslav migrant to Australia who had lots of trouble "putting his best foot forward" at job interviews , wrote this stuff from his own experience and from the experience of his colleagues, not by "borrowing" ideas from other books!
Despite what the title says, this book is not just about interviews, resumes and job applications! It has lots of wise advice on how to manage your career and how to succeed in life in general. I recommend this book to all job hunters, but for graduates and young professionals, this is a must! I suspect that even older professionals who haven't head a job interview for quite a few years will find this publication indispensable.
