Review

Paul's artwork is as dynamic and arresting as ever. His comic touch is perfectly judged, stretching the simple story within reach of a wide age group. (Guardian)

If your child loves Winnie and doesn't love his/her greens then this is the book for you. Winnie loves vegetables especially pumpkin but finds it tricky getting them back from the local market on her broomstick - there's a great picture of the tiny market taders below covered in tomatoes. Winnie decides to grows her own with the help of her magic wand. But it isn't straight forward and she's blocked in the house by an enormous cabbage, has snails the size of wheelbarrows and an enormous pumpkin squashing her roof. The illustrations are zany and detailed, with characters from other books by Korky Paul if you're familiar with them. My children spotted The Cat that Scratched and The Duck with No Luck in the queue for free pumpkin (who are probably going to rush home and make pumpkin soup with the recipe
included at the back) and we smiled at the references to Cinderella.
This a great halloween story for the little ones without any fear of them being scared. It's also quite good to tie in to a "buy local, grow your own" theme - though Winnie does have a magic pumpkin helicopter at the end which is brilliant pictorially and I''m sure would be powered in a carbon-friendly way.

On a chance venture into a high street bookstore (normally buy all my little one's books on Amazon) i found they had the paperback + CD version of Winnie's Amazing Pumpkin and of course i had to buy it as according to everywhere it is not supposed to be available until Mar 2010!!
Anyway was going to keep it till Halloween as wee surprise but after reading it on the train on the way home from work i could not resist giving it to my 3 year old! As with all her other Winnie books she loved loved loved it!
Korky Paul's illustrations are in my opinion second to none. If you look closely at the pictures you will see some of the characters he has brought to life for other authors such as Professor Puffendorf and Sanjay the Baker. My little one actually noticed this before me one night whilst reading Winnie in Winter!
A joy to read aloud time and time again - can't wait till my wee cherub can read it to me!
Would highly recommend Winnie's Amazing Pumpkin as i would all of the titles in the series!

Winnie the Witch is loved at home and in my classroom!

All of the stories are great and children (and adults) love finding all the quirky little bits and pieces in Korky Paul's fascinating illustration.

A great story (what to do with a giant pumpkin?) and look out for characters from lots of KP's other books in the crowds.

My 17 month old loves this book. I did think there might be too many words to get through to keep his interest but he is really taken with the pictures and he is completely mesmerised from start to finish. There are so many details to keep him focused and he loves the fact that the pumkin turns into a helicopter at the end. A great book - we will definitely be buying more from this series.

This is the fifth Winne book for my 5 year old daughter and she loves them. The story and illustrations are great and the narration on the CD is brilliant. Added bonus is the pumpkin soup recepie at the back of the book, great time of year to buy it.

You can't go wrong with a Winnie story. Once again, delightful illustrations and an imaginitive story with a super ending that always provokes excited discussion from my four year old.

This was an immediate hit. The five year-old-read it in tandem with his mother and loved the pictures. With boys, witches are OK, but helicopters are really good.
