A new Winnie the Witch book is a real event in our house. In this volume, Winnie and Wilbur are planning their holiday. Searching the internet (Winnie is a very modern witch) she finds a beautiful little island, with blue sea, golden sand and colonut trees. Once there, she enjoys swimming in the sea and wants to show Wilbur all the fish, turtles, dolphins and coral. There is one drawback to this - Wilbur, being a cat, doesn't like getting wet. So Winnie changes him into a catfish and herself into an octopus. Then Winnie drops her magic wand and there is nearly a disaster when she can't find it. After all the excitement, Winnie decides that her and Wilbur will be safer in a submarine - yellow, of course!
For anyone who is already aquainted with Winnie, you don't need to be told how brilliant these books are. For those just discovering these quirky, fun reads, with busy and vibrant illustrations, I am sure you will enjoy them. This latest is certainly not a disappointment and there is much for young children to enjoy and talk about in the story.
