Review

[Praise for Winnie the Witch picture books]: Paul's artwork is as dynamic and arresting as ever. His comic touch is perfectly judged. (Guardian, Amazing Stories Supplement )

Laura Owen has written several of these books which continue the adventures of Winnie Witch. My son loves (4 1/2) loves these - the pictures are great (by the wonderful Korky Paul) and the story plots are excellent. A great series of books for the older kids who loved the big Winnie witch picture books. Definitely worth every one of the five stars.

We ordered this and several other of the 'chapter' Winnie the Witch books for my daughter, and were so disappointed that they weren't of the calibre of the Valerie Thomas Winnie books. The plots are thin, the dialog frankly bizarre, and are no fun to read at all!

I wouldn't recommend this or any of the Laura Owen versions of Winnie the Witch to anyone who has read and enjoyed the 'original' Winnie stories. That said, my daughter seemed to enjoy them, so I'm giving two stars rather than the one I think it deserves.

Winnie lost her way! 10 Mar 2010
By Gracie
Format:Paperback
Sorry, but I didn't like this book at all. I hated the slang language and didn't think it was in the same class as the other Winnie books that I have bought my grand-children. I thought perhaps it was aimed at the slightly older child. Also I couldn't have researched it properly as I didn't know it would be all black and white. The lovely thing about Winnie books is that, usually, the story is told with such wonderful colour illustrations that each page holds the children's attention and interest.
