This series has waited over 30 years to be released. I recall seeing odd episodes at the time ( 1977 ) and being impressed. The long wait has been the subject of quite a few forums. I had given up waiting for it, then bosh, it was released. The quality is fine, the pace is a bit slow by today's standards but all up it is excellent. I have just finished watching both series, one episode after another. Interesting to see the stars still around today albeit in more mature age roles. Some might find the regular switches to the home front detract from the action, the series suffers a bit by obvious budget constraints but the flying scenes are excellent.
Worth the wait.

Addictive 7 Feb 2010
Wings has a fantastic storyline! I was lucky enough to get the box set for Christmas and I've been absolutely hooked.
If you are well up on your WW1 aviation history you'd be impressed with the accuracy, if not, then you may find it a little slow - but in my view it's a rare gem of a series and (being too young to have seen it first time round) I'm delighted that it has appeared on DVD after all these years.

This is an ace series - full of superb acting, amazing flying (with real aircraft), multi-dimensional characters and a sense of respect to those who flew in the RFC. It may seem slow, compared to the pace of modern drama but don't let that put you off. The slow pace, in my opinion, allows the characters to breath and to flesh out the ratta tat tat action. Personally I found the home front scenes to be as equally engaging as the military ones. A gem of a series that should interest anyone - be they military buff or not.

Even after 35 years, I enjoyed it more now than in 1977. I have to wonder why it hasn't been shown since?

Maybe i am spoiled by the action type movies we see nowadays like Flyboys, The Trench, Passchendaele and My boy Jack for example that all play in that same period. Read more

This is a war film for the men and a romantic film for the women. Yes it has a lot of both and well worth the cost, Buy it and enjoy.
