Whether all the incidents Joan Grant relates actually happened is not for the writer to say, but having my own, personal memories of those days, I feel that many of them have the ring of truth. One such is the story of 'Meniss' -- the name of many pharaohs of the 1st Dynasty -- which Joan Grant tells with such pathos and clarity that one feels one is actually present at these momentous events.

This remarkable book will not disappoint all those who love Ancient Egypt -- which truly was the 'Light of the World' -- a Light that shines forth from every page of Winged Pharaoh.

Although this is presented as fiction, Joan Grant claims to have remembered several past lives, and some of the details of this books are said to be her memories. The story is about a female pharaoh who is trained in the rigorous methods of the Egyptian priesthood. Particularly she has to learn to wake up in her sleep so she can explore and work in the sphere of the dead. As Joan did this sort of work in her recent lifetime, much of what she writes is from experience and insight.

Joan Grant believed she re-experienced previous lives and described them, publishing them as novels. Whether this is a genuine previous life or not does not detract from a fascinating story about a girl child growing up in ancient Egypt knowing she would one day be a co-regent with her brother pharaoh. She has an innate psychic ability and is trained in the Temple to time and space travel in her dreams, communicate with the dead or dreaming, give sane advice to anyone and constantly encourage the good and moral. Published in 1937, this is a far more uplifting read than most modern novels.
