The DVD-Audio is the best thing i have ever heard it is like your really at the concert (especially if you own a sourround sound system) it really brings the music to life you hear all the levels that are lost ona CD.
you really do have to try it to know what i am talking about! the quality and the whole listening experience is 100% better. the couple of extra £'s that is cost to get the DVD-Audio version is well worth the expense.
Commercial-yes, but the playing and production are of such high quality that if you cannot recognise the splendour of these summer jazz/samba beats then you do not understand music. The soulful bonus of the fantastic Bill Withers is just about the icing on the cake.
Relax, kick back on a summer's day with a glass of cool wine and let the vibe wash over you-that's a rare kind of musical peace that you need to experience.
I'd no idea at the time that it had been a Jazz sensation in the States for over 6 months - crossing over big time to the Pop realm - nominated for two Grammys (and winning). Then the guy behind the counter put the needle down for the umpteenth time that day. I only had to hear the first minutes of its title track and bought it immediately. And it's been on my turntable and on Jazz Radio Station playlists ever since. Here are the Wine And Sax details...
Released January 2001 - Warners Jazz/Elektra Masters 7559-62608-2 (Barcode 075596260824) CD breaks down as follows (39:14 minutes):

Tracks 1 to 6 are the album "Winelight" released November 1980 in the USA on Elektra Records 7E-305 and April 1981 in the UK on Elektra Records K 52262. It rose to Number 2 on the US Billboard R&B charts and Number 5 on Billboards Pop charts (UK Number 34 on the Pop charts in May 1981).
The gatefold digipak features the generic 'Warner Jazz' and 'Elektra Masters' logos on the front and rear - you get a very basic gatefold inlay with notes on the album by Chrissie Murray, then Editor of Jazzwise magazine.Read more ›
The CD by Elektra Records is superb but if you can get your hands on the DVD AUDIO disc the sound is mind blowing. To obtain full benefit from DVD AUDIO you will need to have a suitable DVD AUDIO player which is capable of Advanced Resolution Multi Channel Surround Sound. There is also an advanced stereo channel mix on the disc also for use in DVD AUDIO players.
If however you have a good quality DVD video player with DTS 5.1 (Digital Theatre Sound)capability then you can still enjoy the great sound quality of the disc but somewhat less qulity than DVD AUDIO.
If your DVD Video player does not have DTS capability all is not lost as there is also a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound mix included. For those who are not familiar with surround sound the reference to 5.1 means that the disc will play through 2 front and 2 rear speakers and 1 centre speaker. That gives you the 5 and the reference to .1 refers to the bass subwoofer speaker hence the term 5.1 system. There are also 6.1 and 7.1 systems and all surround sound discs are compatible with 5.1, 6.1 and 7.Read more ›

I have been after a 5.1 version of this album for many years but I have always been put off by the extortionate, inflated prices for the DVD Audio. Read morePublished 9 months ago by Colin C.
