4.0 out of 5 stars A good start for starters to the field 19 Mar 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Full of graphics, some prose as well. This book is designed for the amateur and is a very good introduction to wine. It does have flaws but these can be forgiven as it delivers basic information in a fresh and enjoyable way.

All in service, one understands, of the spittoon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Book That Simplifies Understanding Wine 31 Dec 2013
By Steven Smolinsky - Published on Amazon.com
I've drunk a lot of wine over the years so I've looked at a number of books to broaden my understanding and enable me to make better choices. While I've learned a bit, I've mostly gotten confused and found my memory fails me when standing in the wine store or looking at the restaurant wine list.

Recently I was lucky enough to find what I discovered is one of the first copies of this wonderful book. Wine in simple, easy to understand language with lots of great charts and drawings to illustrate what Marnie is talking about. Wine demystified, wine for those of us who don't have time or inclination to spend years studying, wine for people like me who just want to be able to pick a good bottle that enhances dinner. I poured through the book, yes, I say poured because how can you read such a book without wine in hand?

A wind book that is fun to read, easy to understand, and with tips that stick in your mind. Finally I can order wine in a restaurant and have some idea what I'm doing. If you drink wine...read this book! Your senses will thank you. And so will those who share your bottle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oustanding Wine Primer 14 Dec 2013
By T. Gaiser - Published on Amazon.com
There are countless beginner’s books on wine but precious few that can truly impact one’s learning experience the way that Marnie Old’s new “Wine: A Tasting Course” can. In “Wine,” Marnie draws on her distinguished career as a sommelier and wine educator to make the complex subject of wine easily understandable for anyone. What’s particularly effective is Marnie’s use of graphics in the book to explain a wide range of wine concepts from the structural components in wine (acidity, alcohol and tannin) all the way to food and wine pairing. In short, Marnie’s “Wine: a Tasting Course” has become my new go-to book for anyone just starting their wine journey. Highest possible recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Book For All Wine Enthusiasts! 21 Dec 2013
By Melissa Monosoff - Published on Amazon.com
A Tasting Course is like having Marnie Old as a personal coach guiding the reader to a better understanding of wine through easy-to-retain text and fantastic eye-catching and informative graphics.

Included are activities (what could be better than learning activities where you HAVE to taste wine?) that give the reader fun assignments to learn how to taste wine like a pro and to understand personal wine flavor and style preferences.

This is one of the best entry level wine books I have seen in a long time. Marnie is able to take the seemingly unwieldy subject of wine and bring it to the level where beginner and advanced wine enthusiasts can enjoy this book cover to cover.
