5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it every year! 1 Sep 2010

The calendar is printed in black and white. It is printed on recycled paper so it's a little gray rather than white pages. You can use the back sides of the calendar pages to recycle for your own notes as well. The pages are matte finish.

Each day has a fact about wine, varietals, a quote from someone famous about wine, suggested food and wine pairings, recipes, specific wine producers, and then trivia questions. It's quite cute and would be make a nice gift for the wine lover.

I have purchased many of the wines that Ms. MacNeil has mentioned in her calendar and have enjoyed every one. She had one pairing that was roasted tomatoes with a Gruner Veltliner and it was delicious.

Nevertheless it is what it says it is. If you like Ms. MacNeil's style then I would suggest her book The Wine Bible for more authoritative wine knowledge. Otherwise this calendar is a great learning tool and quite enjoyable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Far too many days were ads for wines 11 Feb 2011

I was hoping for more trivia and education about regions, obscure varietals, wine's role in history, maybe even some cool diagrams of the terroir of famous estates, etc. Instead, that kind of stuff is only about 10-15% of the content and much more shallow, with most pages vaguely describing (no vintage specific observations are ever mentioned) what are almost entirely New World wines with large productions. With barely a mention of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone, Loire, Tuscany, Piedmont, yet full of multiple reviews for different $25 Aussie shirazes and $12 Argentinan chards and malbecs, this shouldn't be bought for serious wine collectors. This feels more like a browse through the local Costco than something I'd want on my desk all year long.
3.0 out of 5 stars completeness 22 May 2013

I had purchased the beer lovers calendar and it was great with a nice explanation of craft beers every day. The wine calendar was lacking information. Some days were great, others, lacking. It could be revised.

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent wine calendar 12 Mar 2011

I think this is a pretty decent daily wine calendar. I would prefer fewer specific wine recommendations and more other features, but the content is interesting and I enjoy reading about different wines every day.
