Book Description

2 Sep 2013

Wine Bar Theory is an attitude and an approach to work. It's not about cutting corners, it's about wanting the very best and not settling for less. It's a theory that can pave your road to success.

Author David Gilbertson built a failing company into a successful multi-billion dollar business without getting up at 4:00am or working until midnight. He knows how to work better, and get brilliant results. Now in just 28 simple rules, he spells out the secret of his success; everyday accessible strategies for creative professionals, managers, students, entrepreneurs, and anyone who wants to get ahead in life. As one rule follows another, he builds a compelling narrative on paving the way to success (and getting that all-important time to go to a wine bar with friends, or just time to think).

Covering workplace issues and business strategy, Wine Bar Theory shows you things you can do more easily, and things you don't need to do at all. It's about being effective and not just busy. This affordable, pocket-sized book is a business book like no other. Its creative illustrations are by Bill Butcher, whose work is seen in the pages of The Wall Street Journal, Fortune and the Economist.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent book! 20 Nov 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Wine Bar Theory is brief, humorous and well informed. It provides a superb list for health-checking any business. If a business is not following all of the 28 rules, then it better have a very good reason. I have been a board director for several years and reckon this to be one of best reference books I have read. I recommend that everyone in business should read Wine Bar Theory and then carry it with them at all times. Well done Mr. Gilbertson!

5.0 out of 5 stars A classy book 30 Oct 2013
By thomlee
Format:Hardcover
This is packed full of the best business theory. Of the 28 rules, you could read a book on each. However, this concise and wonderfully elegant book brilliantly introduces the reader to the common mistakes and fallacies that are all too present within business and outside of it. It can be read in hours but after 25 years in business it reminded me of important lessons I knew but had neglected. This should be read by anyone who, like me, likes simple and clear rational rather than a lot of boring jargon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and humourous read 29 Oct 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
David Gilbertsons book is an intelligent and fun read. It is the perfect antidote to the idea that if you are not in the office for 14 hours a day, every day, then you cant possibly be maximising 1. opportunities 2. your firms investment in you 3. use of Facebook. David's book goes all the way back to work smart, not hard. Loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever, funny and useful 18 Oct 2013
Format:Hardcover
I love this book because he helps to simplify an increasingly complex, info overloaded world. A very practical guide it cuts through all the b*llocks and jargon. The overriding feeling I get when I pick it up is of clarity. The layout and design is also great so it really works as a handbook, something to have on your desk/ bedside table for re-reading and occasional browsing.
