For Dummies ? - you must be joking,

I bought this item for my girlfriend as she has limited computer skills being new to the scene. I expected it to be a simple install or run from disk device. I started by trying it on my own desktop PC which is already running Vista. The result was that it locked the PC completly preventing access to all programs and the disk would not execute the program.
I tried it on her laptop with exactly the same results. It might be worth pointing out that I tried other DVD's/CD's on both machines and they worked fine. When I looked at the instructions they indicated that there may be problems when running on Vista. What kind of product is it that is aimed at novices but causes problems that need experienced users to get it out of the mess in order to shutdown the PC ? I wouldn't recommend this to anyone already running Vista but if anyone has ideas on a fix I would be grateful to know what they are.
